Great to see. Norway's sent me an email address for a lad at the Echo who says he's interested in helping, i'll post the email i send on here and hopefully we'll get some backing from somewhere, anywhere!! for postage.
The little ****ers are magic at football, in this area you have to be rich to have a tele as the electric has to be pumped in from the nearest transformer at a huge cost, so like all boys its footy all day, they eat sleep and dream of it, and if our team could just start performing, these guys will grow up dreaming of playing for Sunderland, they even walk the long distance to school doing keepy ups with a ball. And they all walk to Naivasha to watch the televised matches. most play football with no boots, as surviving is the main priority, it warms my heart to see the photo and cant wait for the day they all have a kit. the whole of Kenya will talk about it.
Rog, have another couple of pairs of boots, 2shirts (second hand) and about 15 footballs, to send. just waiting for MackemMuffdiver to contact the Echo guy, see how he can help.
Email sent as promised... Hi, I'm a moderator on the Sunderland AFC not606 forum. I was passed your details as a point of contact in relation to try and get some coverage for an appeal we have been trying to get off the ground via the not606 fans forum. The idea came about around the time of Quinn's comments about stay away fans, and the commercial viability of the club. In discussion, a few of the lads on the board got to thinking about ways we could raise the clubs profile globally, and with the strong links to Africa we already have with Mensah, Gyan, Muntari and Sessegnon, the idea of reaching out to other parts of the continent was born. It developed from there, to the point it is at now, not only could we help promote our beloved club, we could also help out people less fortunate, win/win. Within hours of airing the appeal, we had many pledges of shirts, balls and boots, as a rough estimate, i'd say we were close to 100 pledges within a couple of days, and also received backing from various other clubs fans, even our lovely neighbours up the road (a couple of which have also pledged shirts, one even going so far as to purchase one off ebay, much to his own disgust!). What we would like, and where we fell you could help, is maybe in a) promoting the appeal to a wider audience, and b) possibly helping us to find a company willing to help with collection and shipping. We contacted the club, regards putting collection points around the SOL on match days, but received no response, a PR bollock in my eyes, but little i can do about their apparent lack of interest. Our plan is to kit out a local youth team, SAFC Keroche, in red and white shirts and boots, and to also go beyond that and help as many people as we can in the area. They have received their first batch of gear from one of the posters on the board, and posted pics wearing it, which is very heartwarming for all concerned, but it's at the stage now where we want to push through and get as much done as we can, with the new kit launch, it's potentially a great time to appeal for unwanted replica shirts, this season and even older designs are absolutely fine, as well as boots, balls, bags, basically anything that will help. I have contacts for SAFC Keroche, they have been keeping the lads informed of their results and fixtures, which is a nice touch, i also, of course, have names of the main players behind the idea, which can be provided on request, and assuming i receive their consent. I'll look forward to hearing from you, and will provide contact numbers of you want to have a chat and get a bit more of a feel for what we are trying to do. Regards. Hopefully we get a response from this and can make a difference.
Ha she drives already mate, just fancies a change. Spent the day looking at ****ing hairdresser wagons and such like. I'm trying to convince her of the merits of buying a car that's actually ****ing decent, not just 'a nice shape'. Bloody woman.
