#QPR owner Tony Fernandes believes John Terry should remain England captain while allegations he racially abused Anton Ferdinand are investigated.#

why - what has Tony fernandes got to do with this?
i also read somewhere that the only bit that was caught on mic was Terry asking Anton if he had indeed called him the offending word

in my eyes he's a scumbag

He clearly shouldn't be part of the squad while this is ongoing. I don't know what the truth of the matter is, but while under investigation for something so serious it is utterly inappropriate to call him up.

Totally agree Exile - the man (if I can call him that) who is about to represent our country as Captain? I\m in education and this rubs against me like grade 9 sandpaper. How Capello sees through this as a sign of our times is beyond me, and as earlier posters have mentioned, if this were an ordinary job, the bloke would be on unpaid leave.

either way it does not matter. what does matter is that while Liverpool have won the Champions League 5 times, he has never won it. Do the maths sunshine, that makes super Stevie G 5 times better than him

Most premier lg players are horrible human beings, Anton Ferdinand doesn t strike me as a particularly nice guy either.... Everyone and his dog seems to be morally outraged by a scummy bloke calling another "a black ****"..... The matter is purely between them but Terry should be axed, and Ashley Cole, Rooney, Carroll ,Lampard, Gerrard ,Rio Ferdinand ,Crouch in fact any drug taking wife cheating on ,whore paying for racists ......... If we select our England 11 not only on stats but as role models too then most of them need to go.......<ok>

Maybe it's just that dodgy curry I just ate, or maybe it's true - the mere mention of dear old 'Stevie G' makes me want to vomit, as do Terry et al.

Good luck to their teams, but let's have them in the past as far as England is concerned.

Well he obviously said it.Within my working environment I hear remarks like that all the time,in fact within working class circles I would be pretty shocked if I didn't hear it.Wanting the world to conform to a certain ideal doesn't make it so.

Mrs CT is a teacher so socially I get to mix with some pretty PC types.Very nice people all of them and they do a great job trying to teach your kids moral values etc. Most of them don't inhabit the real world though any more than Prince Charles or Rowan Williams do.

Wouldn't want to rely on either of them to score an injury time penalty either.

It's enforcement of law though, rather than conforming to ideals, isn't it?
What an individual thinks, no matter how stupid or bigoted, is up to the individual. But how they act, what they say etc. in public is subject to the rule of law.
I can't see an (alleged) incident like this as an issue of political correctness, it's abuse and has to be stamped out.

Got to say too, I've got a lot of time for the Prince of Wales and the Archbishop... they would be rubbish at penalties though!

What has morals got to do with it? It's ILLEGAL end of these people aren't teaching kids morals as such they're teaching them how to behave in the REAL world. Wherever i've worked if people had expressed views like that to a "black" colleague they would have been suspended on the spot or possibly even sacked.

It's NOT about "ideals" it's about the rule of law

It's not illegal to think these things (yet!) but spouting them off sure is

Terry is a nasty bloke and has a history of being a complete arsehole.

Personally, I can't wait for him to retire and bugger off our TV screens.

The way I look at it is this, why would Ferdinand acuse him of the abuse if it didn't really happen?
WTF has he got to gain?

GUILTY !!!!

I think that anyone that refers to a chinese take away as a chinky should feel the full force of the law, if this hate filled word is ever uttered in public......

SN23 - you are such a fantastic gentleman. Your sparkling wit compliments your kind nature brilliantly. I have to ask though. Are the stories true that you collect coat hangers?

I'm not defending Terry BTW,just observing that we have to deal with the world as it is,not how we would like it to be. It's ok having a soft spot for HRH or the beardy bishop but neither of them IMO inhabit the real world.By all means ban Terry, for life if you want, but let's not lose touch with reality.

On the subject of cocaine. In a posh restaurant I was served a wonderful looking dessert decorated with lines of icing sugar. When I rolled up a £20 note and snorted one the old biddy on the next table looked a bit put out.

Isn't how we'd like it to be what underpins a great many of our laws though, and those laws are put in place to deal with the world as it is? I can't see how banning Terry (for however long) is losing touch with reality, it's dealing with it.
The laws are created because these problems exist, it therefore is inherently about dealing with reality.

On Dr. Williams and Prince Charles, I think it’s a mistake to put them in the same block regarding their experience of the real world, very different backgrounds, lifestyles and experience gained from working life. But in very different ways, I think they have a great deal of experience and knowledge to impart, and are generally worth listening to (don’t always agree with them, mind you).
Anyway, they’re probably not really the subject for discussion on a football forum ;)
