Yeah, I did look that up. The fact that an agricultural clogging from Vieira was never described as naive as one from Song or West ties in to the fact that he's considered "European"

Because he is not the only one to do so.

The fact there's all this petty nitpicking - Romani aren't a race, oh but it's worse in Spain/Russia, but if you type it in on Google - to divert from my assertion that it's better to pretend there isn't racism in English football from players, fans, officials or pundits is proving my original point: That people pretend that racism doesn't exist in English football.

What's terrifying is how Chelsea fans have rallied around Terry, and to show solidarity are racially abusing Anton Ferdinand on Twitter or in Genk's stadium.

To take it one step further, why does John Terry seem to have pundits trying to defend him when he's being the nasty piece of work that he clearly is? For example, when Chelsea played Wigan last season he repeatedly clattered N'Zogbia, and the MOTD pundits actually defended - even praised - him for doing so, which you would never see if he played for, say, Stoke or Wolves and did the exact same thing.

There's also the times they praise his "mental strength" for either scoring a header against Burnley when the Wayne Bridge thing came out, and they were dusting the same comments off when he scored against Arsenal. Are they really that detached from common sense, or have they been blinded by the England captain's armband?

Sorry Ensil, I already gave up.
You were right with your previous post, though I'll leave it up to others to voice their opinions if they disagree.

Haven't you worked it out yet, Ensil? If you prove that the guy is wrong about something, you're Nitpicking.

1109 FOOTBALL: Chelsea are likely to escape any charges for their fans' taunting of Anton Ferdinand after Uefa confirmed this morning that neither their match delegate nor referee Svein Oddvar Moen made any mention in their reports of the abuse levelled at the QPR defender during the 1-1 Group E draw at the Cristal Arena.

With both these individuals being foreign would it be fair to assume neither were aware of the connotation. Is the whole of Europe up to the minute with the story, I doubt its continuous headline news over there. They were listening to a crowd singing in a foreign language as far as they are concerned, I would have said well done for not even paying attention to what songs are being sung by the bloody crowd. Fair play for concentrating on the game.

I find it ridiculous UEFA would rely on those two as the last line of proof/action, when it suits them with other incidents they're quite happy to use video evidence...I'm staggered by there decision and reason.

    I have to agree, Notso.
You have to know who Anton Ferdinand is and what Terry's been accused of saying to him to understand what the chant means.
Context is everything, in this case.

As somebody said earlier, subtle racism is as bad - if not worse - than being blatant about it. There's nothing overtly offensive about that chant, until you realise what it means.

Rather than say "Yes, England fans did aim anti-Gypsy chants in Sofia" you say "The Romani aren't a race" - that's obvious nitpicking because you're not answering the question. And, as stated by others in this thread, the Romani are a race - it's just misues of the word "Gypsy" to describe the residents of Dale Farm or those on Big Fat Gypsy Weddings, who are gypsy with a lower case "g", has clouded the difference.

Another example of nitpicking - I cited the Kanu incidence against Sheffield United in the FA Cup a few seasons ago and the multitude of pundits, commentators and journos all called him "naive" - but you keep picking at the defending one, ignoreing the fact I have noted several times that black players representing non-African countries are not describes as "naive" when they clatter opponents.

Oh, and bitching about a poster who is disagreeing with you in the thread by talking sense isn't a classy thing to do. Just a heads up...
