The vast majority of anthropologists would disagree with you, Pat. Romani are a people, i.e. a sub-group or classification, not a seperate race.

Ok enough with the anthropology lessons. Terry will face a police investigation for his actions in the Chelsea, QPR game.

Disgraceful comments by Trevor Sinclair today, saying that Terry would only use racist language "to gain an advantage.." Thanks Trev. That clears that up then. <doh>

I think that Sinclair's attempting to give people some insight into sledging in football, but racism clearly isn't an acceptable subject for it.
It seems to have become fairly frequently used recently though, for some reason.

All it does is reinforce the fact that football, while stamping racism out of football in the stands and banning (rightly) fans for life if they share their views with the crowd at a game, does what the **** it likes. Racism is unacceptable in the workplace, any workplace.

If Terry was working in a bank or a supermarket he would be dismissed. The whole thing will be swept under the carpet. Rank hypocrisy.

I haven't seen, or heard Sinclair's comments. Do you mean that he's trying to say that calling someone an Effing black cu next tuesday, merely constitutes sledging?

Pretty much. He says how Terry is cool with all his black football pals and definitely not a racist. He says that he must only have said it, if he did, to gain an avantage during the game. Heard the interview today.

Interesting. I wonder what Trev would say if his "mate JT" called him the same thing. Presumably, just give him a wry smile, knowing, of course, that he didn't really mean it, and was only "sledging"

Villas-Boas has no comment about the Terry accusation.
    Interesting.

How come we never get to play them when they're in turmoil?

Hopefully their turmoil will last all season.

How does that work, exactly? When a corner's being taken he racially abuses the nearest black defender in order to gain a free header?

Villash-Boash once again demonstrated his personality is a freakish hybrid of Mourinho and Wenger, saying he didn't hear the away support chanting "Ferdinand, you know what you are" - chants the club were later quick to condemn - making Chelsea fans just as appalling as John Terry, but then again people have forgotten Chelsea fans' old reputation since the post-Mourinho glory hunters shacked up (they also called Wayne Bridge a "****ing prick" because Terry slept with his girlfriend - hardly Da Vinci, are they?)

We did last season, and drew 0-0. DAMMIT!

You might have noticed I said commentators and pundits, several times, citing examples - as well as asking, quite pertinently, why the same line is never used when a non-African player commits a similarly agricultural challenge.

WSC has picked up on it repeatedly in every tournament involving black African teams, yet you aren't.

You're the one saying there's degrees of racism.

One is racism, one is murder.

Your point is as offensive to my intelligence as it is ludicrous.

I wouldn't expect him too, although dedicating the win against Everton to Terry was a stupid move <doh>

It is used for non-African players.
    It's used all the time.

The examples that you've used are completely inaccurate too, as they're all cynical hackers.

    WSC?

Disagreeing with a claim doesn't mean that somebody's spotted something that I haven't.
I don't think that what they're saying is correct.
Even if it is, it's probably the ancient pundits like Motson, who are bound to make naive comments.
Am I allowed to say that?

There clearly are, though all are wrong.
There aren't degrees of rape and the comparison is as offensive as it is ludicrous, frankly.

So why are black cynical hackers naive, but white ones aren't?

Edgar Davids was a hacker, yet he wasn't called naive because he represented a "civilized" nation like Holland. The same can be said of Patrick Vieira.

    When Saturday Comes.

It's not even the commentators or pundits from way back in the 70s, given that Lawrenson is particularly bad for it. And, as I said, it isn't black players from European countries, but black players from African countries - and even manage a double standard by sparing the rod for Marcel Desailly, probably because nobody bothered to check he was Ghanaian because he was playing for France.

There's a reason I posted the Ken Clarke quote - because he got into a lake of **** for using the terms "serious rape" and "classic rape" to differentiate between them. So, no, I wasn't being offensive or ludicrous in the slightest.

    They're not.
    Nobody's saying that they are.

Davids is from Suriname, by the way.
    Vieira's from Senegal.

Lawrenson says a lot of stupid things.
Why focus on one of them?

So you don't think that there's any difference between Lawrenson making a stupid comment and a crowd of fans holding up an openly racist banner at a game, then?

    I disagree.

He's entitled to his opinion though, Ensil.
You're probably right about nobody moving their stance a jot though, so it might be better to draw a line under the whole thing.

    What do you say, Croydon?
