It's certainly possible, isn't it? Although I doubt Poll would've heard it.

I was discussing it with a couple of Chelsea fans awhile back and one insisted that King had denied Terry said anything like it. I've never found anything on the web from King. Interestingly the only person who has ever denied that Terry is a racist, is Terry.

He's a liar! The Fail is reporting that Rio won't take Terry's calls; So, he's obviously been given the SP by Anton. Got to give Capello a problem! I just hope that the low-life scumbag doesn't get away with it - Again!!

Methinks AVB has lost the plot or is hoping to deflect the expected media storm it was a CC cup tie FFS!
On the comment by SF it is entirely possible the reason King said nothing is that he may have been advised not to say anything.

Didn't they dedicate their win against Bolton to Amanda Knox?

I think he's exaggerating a little, to be honest, but he's not far off.
It's far better than it was, but it still gets overlooked, probably to try and avoid publicly tarnishing the image of the game, which is just stupid.

Hammering international sides that react with open hostility to black players would be a start, but they might upset their current golden boys, Spain.

Ian Wright in his column has it spot on, you can have as many committee's and campaigns as you like, its all lip service (theres scope for wordplay there...but I won't!). Until its removed from society, it will never be removed from sport, and there's not much chance of that for at least a generation.

    ...miserable coloured person. :D

It's miles better than it was. God, I remember the "good old days" in the mid-60's when people like Clyde Best had to run down the wing through, almost literally, a hail of bananas, and the most horrendous racial abuse. Of course, it was all just part of the "fun", then. If you were black, and you wanted to play pro football it was all just part of the price you had to pay.

NSIS, do you remember Love Thy Neighbour, it was perfectly ok to laugh then, but its not now.

Love Thy Neighbour was before my time, but wasn't it sort of equal opportunity racism?
Both lead characters were racist towards each other, weren't they?
I could be miles wide of the mark here, but I get the feeling that the programme makers were trying to highlight how ridiculous such behaviour is.
    Am I completely wrong?

Personally, NotSo, I think it's gone to far. You can't take the piss, or even poke mild fun, at anything nowadays, unless you might offend some group/gender/race, or whatever. It's one of the reasons that most of the alleged comedy on T.V. at the moment, is usually about as funny as a burning orphanage!

Love thy neighbour was O.k. for it's day. Fawlty Towers, now that WAS funny - still is, IMO. That famously took the piss out of the Germans, amongst others. I'm not suggesting we go back to the days of laughing at "darkies" or foreingners; however, my point is, that it's gone too far the other way. Too much bloody P.C. nonsense.

Yes, obviously those with any intelligence know that. However, it was funny. The point I'm trying to make is, that you just can't even do that, anymore. The P.C. brigade have taken over, and anything remotely humorous, on T.V. at least, has died along with their rise to prominence.

Unfortunately many didn't get the joke with Garnett and they liked the programme because they shared his views. They didn't realise they were supposed to be laughing at him, not with him. In Fawlty Towers it was a lot clearer, the Germans came across as sympathetic and Basil didn't. "No, you started it. You invaded Poland" <laugh>

Love thy Neighbour and Mind your Language were vile repugnant programs. Something I thought as a child, not just in hindsight.

The only joke that Fawlty Towers wouldn't be able to get away with now is the one by the Major about the time he took a girl to see India...at the Oval.
(Yeah, I get the feeling I'd get a ban warning if I repeated it...)

I recall a few episodes of Only Fools And Horses using the shortened form of the word Pakistani - presumably those ones aren't shown on GOLD...

I don't think that Luke is getting the point I was making - or he's ignoring it. You're quite right in what you say. What I'm trying to say is, as I posted earlier, the pendulum has swung too far the other way. Nowadays, you can hardly poke fun at anything, or anybody - no matter how ridiculous, without being accused of being sexist, racist, homophobic, or whatever.

I remember that well, HBIC. In it's way it was just as funny as Basil & The Germans. The Major was a great character - a real old fashioned bigot. Again, you were laughing at his bigotry, rather than what he actually said.

    Nice one Ensil <laugh>

There, we agree. Unfortunately, the P.C. brigade have decided that if all humour is at somebody elses expense, then it's best to dispense with humour. Sad to say, a lot of these people who "know what's best for public consumption" work at places like the BBC. Hence, the current dearth of just about anything remotely funny on T.V.
