Horrible and feels a bit close. I was there 2 weeks ago in a hotel very near by and spent a lot of time in that market. Met some lovely people and my thoughts are with them.

Yea, looks more and more like a deliberate planned attack.
I suppose my point was that I feel the media automatically now jump on every incident too quickly. Tensions are already on a knife edge in Germany over Merkels open door policy. The media IMO should be balanced and responsible until sure of the facts.
100% agree with this sentiment, but sadly we know these deaths will be exploited in all kinds of ways by the media and politicians. It's already happening with Trump and the AFD in Germany. Most of the papers this morning omit the 'suspected' from their description of the 'terror attack' even though it has still not been 100% confirmed and certainly wasn't when the stories were written.

If there was a Christmas market on Oxford St and god forbid the same sort of attack happened, could we only assume Christians would be killed?

Trump is only trying to justify his policy of excluding Muslims from entering the USA. Every terrorist attack will be highlighted especially where it is likely that Muslims have killed Christians in order to convince Americans that his policy is right. If it was a muslim on muslim attack in Istanbul for example, Trump wouldn't bother highlighting the assumed religion of the victims.
Fingy, the driver was an asylum seeker from Pakistan, the real driver was Polish in a truck from Poland, he was in the passenger seat brown bread.

By attacking a symbol of Christian identity, these scum are doing their best to divide us all and incit more violence against decent Muslims, so as to justify their warped cause.
Their attacks are no more representative of Islam, than a nutter who blows up an abortion clinic is representative of Christianity.
Why can't we all just get along ?

No gods, no masters.

Obviously with that statement you're no better than those labeling things quickly as being done by Islamist without any real evidence.

And what the heck has Trump got to do with this? Don't lump him in with that, just because you don't like him personally. Lets not forget that Obama was the one, with Hillary sitting next to him, that assassinated Osama Bin Laden while they watched the whole thing happen on TV back at home in DC while the Seal Team did their bit and cleaned up the mess that the Bushes left behind; all while Trump was trying to do business with the Saudis and others in the Middle East, business dealing which the Obama administration tried to squash, and Hillary would have done the same.

The papers only "seem" to omit things from you because you're blind and can't see past your hate.

You're clueless

I wouldn't know what that is mate, is that what you use? You sound like you know a lot about it. You should quit that stuff immediately because it's obviously warping your mind.

Just don't get the bile, clearly I have offended you in some way. Tell you what, rather than just boring everybody by abusing me, why don't you tell us what we should all think about this stuff, according to you. You seem to have strong opinions on lots of things. "Mate".

Come on guys, a serious discussion on a terrible terrible event. No need for squabbling. Terror attack, madman with a lorry, or just a tragic accident, what happened was awful and so senseless. How do we combat this type of activity? Either turn against everyone associated with the perpetrators cause and exasperate the division, or acknowledge these type of acts are the work of fringe madmen who are anything but representatives for what they claim to be their cause.

Thoughts with the families and RIP.

Fair enough, apologies all round.

So, they got the wrong man and now the real culprit has probably made a clean getaway. Merkel is getting deeper in the mire every week...

What really irritates me is these morons who try to justify wanton violence by sticking a religious label on it. But that has been going on for centuries I guess.

what is really worrying is the far right can start more propaganda. With all the refugees that Germany have taken in, they could now become targets for those that disagree with the German policy on open borders.

France, Germany, USA with 911, us with the London Bombings....Australia with Sydney attacks..........and we are supposed to be the "intelligence" on this planet

Merkel made a calamitous decision when she opened her borders. I suspect that decision will haunt her for the rest of her days.

The German people, including the NDP, have been amazingly tolerant so far. In the last year or so, there were the Cologne sex attacks, a suicide bomber in Ansbach, an Islamist stabbed a German policewoman in the neck (and was shot), a Syrian carved a pregnant woman to death with a machete, another Islamist knifeman went beserk on a train killing a passenger and wounding several others, the daughter of a refugee worker has just been murdered by an Afghan refugee who had already pushed a woman off a cliff in Greece and released after a ridiculously short sentence... now we have the bloodbath in Berlin. Numerous plots have been discovered. Yet still, apparently, there is only a fraction of the anger in Germany that was felt in Nice after the Bastille Day killings.

At some point, that will change.

In addition to those killed in this despicable attack, I feel very sorry for the family of the innocent Polish truck driver who was murdered and his hijacked rig then used to commit this horrible act. He suffered knife and gunshot wounds, so it appears he attempted to fight back when confronted by his attacker.

The Germans are lucky, they could live in the United States!!!

A 3-year-old boy was shot dead in an alleged road rage incident in Little Rock, Arkansas, was identified as Acen King, a family member told ABC News.

The shooting happened Saturday while the boy was in the car with his grandmother and his 1-year-old sibling, Lt. Steven McClanahan of the Little Rock Police Department said.

When the grandmother, identified by police as 47-year-old Kim King-Macon of Little Rock, stopped at an intersection, a man in the car behind her honked, the police said.

King-Macon honked back, and the suspect got out of his car and fired a gun, police said.

The German people seem resolved to avoid repeating their well-documented right wing/fascist/nationalist days of the 1930s & 40s. Hate does not have to be met with hate. That's surrendering to the Dark Side. And history tells us it doesn't end well. Good for them!

There's some truth in that, and hate never got anyone anywhere.

But there will come a time, if it has not already arrived, when a tolerant people will see that mass immigration has a darkly negative side. What worries me are politicians that cause Germany to lurch from one extreme to another.
