And these figures are for Arsenal, not Chelski or Citeh <yikes>

I don't know the website, or speak for it's it's authenticity, but the sums quoted don't look too much out of line given the (folly of the current) market place.

What hope the Lutons and Lincolns if these are accurate figures!

How the hell are the poor buggers surviving? I take the reference to "low" is not one for sharing with people doing 40 hours on a production line for minimum wage.
And we wonder why football is in a mess

I wasn't having a pop at him. I was just adding my sarcastic, cynical comment aimed at players totally immune and uncaring about the real world outside of the football world they live in.
Now I understand Ox, just fresh from his paper round, wants more money. The ambition nowadays is to be a multi millionaire rather than get 100 caps or play 700 games for your club.
Sorry Comer. I wasn't having a pop but I grow more cynical by the hour with sport in general. I wish I hated football but I can't help it and will be on the net this arvo as usual.
But as the manager of a department of over 20 people who have had one pay rise in 5 years, and despite my best efforts with the directors, I am unable to get them an increase, I go cold at the thought of whining, snivelling footballers claiming they are working too hard but a bit more money could help. FFS, they are on about Scholes have to rest because he's doing too much. A man in his mid thirties on thousands a week and people in my department in their late 50's having to do as much overtime as they can just to pay the increases in their bills.
Footballers, just say thank you and keep your mouths and the mouths of your agents firmly shut.
 
I share all the anger until I start thinking about other areas. How much do Lawrenson and Co earn in a week? Pop singers? TV presenters? Soap Opera Characters ( I can't bring myself to call them actors )? Henman became a multi millionaire without ever winning a major tournament. How many golfers last year earned £1m without ever winning? Many Bankers earned far more than footballers for bringing the Country to its knees. One of the people who brought the Halifax to its knees is now a Chief Exec somewhere else and earning far more than any Arsenal footballer. Why always pick on football?

So the details of confidential contracts between club and individual players are in the public domain? I don't think so. The only reliable available information (compiled from annual accounts) is the total wage bill, which includes all player wages plus all management and staff wages and salaries. The figures quoted for Arsenal cannot be more than approximations/guesses, and one needs to know by whom. Arsenal are said to pay their players above average wages, but they also have a wage structure with a cap well below what clubs like Chelsea and the Manchester clubs are prepared to pay. <ok>

I totally agree but most original topics start off with football. I would love to debate all day about life, politics, responsibility etc. Three or four people sat at the bar all with different views but willing to acknowledge the others points of views would be a pleasure for me. Trouble is, most of my drinkingmates share the same views so the responses don't normally get past "you're right".

You are completely correct and the best place for such a discussion is a pub - you don't get discussions like that in your front room whilst necking a can of cheap beer from the Supermarket. On Thurs we had such a discussion in our village pub over the American election. Mrs 1950, myself and another regular were glad Obama had won, 2 others had wanted Romney to win and the 6th person thought that Romney lost because he was too left wing!!! Nobody lost their temper, nobody changed their views but an hour and a couple of pints of Humpty Dumpty flew by.

A little surprised that anyone is surprised by the Arsenal wage structure (which looks relatively believable). If you add in Wenger (supposed to be on £6 mill per year (£120k per week), their weekly wage bill is about £1.3 mill(+ tax). For a home game, their gate receipts would be about £2- £2.5 mill, and obviously with the add ons of TV money, merchandising etc., it looks a pretty sustainable model.
Man City on the other hand. I'd expect to have probably about 10 players earning Podolski like wages or higher. I'd love to see what their total wage bill was!

But wouldn't it be even more sustainable if they halved the wages and halved the entrance money?

It would be, and can you imagine how much kicking off would come from Arsenal fans, as the only players who will join them come from the Spanish and French 3rd divisions!!!!
