Oh my god the world is gonna end! Or......PJ could sign a couple of CBs and we would have a decent side and could make up for dropped points by winning games later on in the season. Really can't understand why there is so much panic on here, PJ been trying to get defenders in all summer but the deals haven't come off for him, the closer we get to transfer deadline the easier it gets to get some decent defenders. Would you rather we signed another two Ingimarssons or waited for some quality defenders to become available? I'm dissapointed to lose 2-5 at home but I'm smart enough to know that we're just going to have to make due with crap defenders until the good ones are available.
Sven, I assume as you're local you went tonight. I totally agree with you that the defence really was crap and at fault for every goal but having watched the game, do you honestly think that the introduction of two new CBs would give us a decent side? It would fill gaping hole but having seen that crap tonight do you not think there are other major problems to resolve before we can claim to have a good side? Leadbitter tonight was just as bad as anyone on the pitch and his level of effort and inspiration seemed marginally above zero. Bowyer did very little and seems to have lost his fitness. Edwards (out of position we know) was totally lost. We played four central midfielders and not one with any creativity or ability to be the engine room for midfield. The team were, again, arguing amongst themselves (which worries me). The Scotland / Chopra thing was about the only part that worked - and both did ok - though I agree with those on here who say JET playing behind Chops would be a better option. I am seriously p****d off after watching that crap - I think I have a right to be. That said, I am not panicing yet but, equally, I think there is much more to do than just fix the two CB positions. It's a start but I think we have big problems elsewhere too.
Not saying we will walk the league with two new CBs, just that we will at least be able to compete and with good management and team spirit that can get you far in this league. If we're gonna get promoted I think we need at least another 4 or 5 real quality players Leadbitter was played out of position on the right and didn't help an already bad defender in Edwards who was caught out of position far too often. Not sure I agree Scotland played well, he certainly looked more lively than usual but still not good enough. Agree that Bowyer looked a bit sluggish but he was playing against a very good passing team. I'll reserve judgement for now.
Nope, understood what you meant Sven but I'm not as confident as you that we would be able to compete just with the CB problem sorted. It would be better, of course, but I think that you are right that we are short of 4-5 quality players. This in itself is worrying given that we have already signed eight (without adding up again).
Well we're moving in the right direction and thats all some people on here were asking for just recently, now they are slating Jewell for not turning things round quicker
I do think all goes to prove that there is far more to success than just new signings and we'll see how things develop in the coming weeks. Personally Sven, I'm not slating PJ off for not turning things around quicker but I do think that he got it very wrong tonight.
Can't disagree with that but strangely I found tonight encouraging! At no point in Keane tenure did he realise 442 would work better at home but Jewell has after the first home game of the season and now I hope he has realised that playing JET off Chops is the best way to go at home.
Sven I have to agree with everyone of your posts. Yes tonight was poor but our quality is improving in the squad, apart from CB where yes we need at least 2 new ones. But I have confidence in Jewell in bringing in these players. I did also in a strange way find tonight encouraging, when comparing it to the last few seasons. Chopra looks like a class act as does JET if he finds some consistency, Cresswell looks decent at LB and Martin looks lively on the wing. The only one of Jewell's signing that looked poor was Bowyer, not sure what to think of him but he does have some quality. I think we need a few transfer windows to sort this mess out, its not just going to happen over night. Surely it shows the size of the job Jewell has got on his hands in that he has made 8 new signings yet still needs so many more, not IMO because his signing have been poor but because we had/have such a poor squad. Tonight I think Jewell did get it wrong with the formation but I'm not sure if Martin had a slight injury, so therefore he did not want to play him and JET i don't think is still fully fit. Which leaves him with very few options in midfield and upfront. Tonight we were poor, especially defensively against a really good Southampton side, but we created chances and the game was at least entertaining. I am under no elusions that there are still many more low points to come this season purely due to the size of the task that Jewell has. And so far I think he has done a great job. Lets face it without the 8 signings we made this summer I think we would be relegated this season.
**** me gently, sven and itfcptc, what a pair of knob ends you two are, comment by sven:- Well we're moving in the right direction and thats all some people on here were asking for just recently, now they are slating Jewell for not turning things round quicker If the last three results is your idea of moving in the right direction then you really are a dumb twat and itfcptc agrees with you, OMG!!!! How long has PJ had to bring in 2 cb's?? He knew GMac was off when he took over and to be fair even then our defence was ****e!!
Nothing will change until we get some experienced defenders in, with the exception of young Cresswell we are dreadful at the back. Tommy smith doesnt look capable at this level, Delaney looks as if hes gone over the hill, and Edwards although he will give 100% is not, never was, and never will be a defender. Coupled with a midfield that doesnt give enough cover to its defence and is as easily passed through as the defenders, Bowyer in particular is entirely ineffective so it doesnt take a genius to work out we will be in trouble against fast, quick passing to feet forwards. Apparently we tried for several players but didnt land them, well the only reason we didnt get them is because they were offered better terms elsewhere. We banked £8m + for CW on top of £3m + for Walters, also we have got rid of several high earners Mcauley, Norris, Fulop, Lisbie, and Counago, so come on ITFC if you want quality you have to pay for it and we should have the money so get your hands in your pockets and get some quality in and some rubbish out or nothing will change.
Delaney was pants at Hull, why did QPR buy him? He was pants at Rangers, why did Ipswich buy him? Find the individual at your club (probably still there somewhere) who rubber stamped the deal, then whip his wanger with a wet wassock. A long time ago I saw ITFC score 5 at home against Saints, Brazil scored them all I think. It was a long midweek journey home. It hurt. Last night I saw Saints return the compliment. It's great. The end.
Sven You are a decent bloke and I often agree with your comments on here but how the hell can you say that we are moving in the right direction!?! It defies all logic and belief! We are as bad if not worse than a year ago under Keane. I watched all the friendly matches and we were at best average and that was against lower league opposition. Feck me Cambridge tore us apart at times! I just hope and pray that there are 3 worse teams in this league because we are going backwards!
Spanish you getting dementia old man? Or perhaps your just to pig ignorant to remember any of the tripe that has come out of your mouth in recent years?? It is people who thought like you about Mr Keane as to why we are having alot of the problems we have now, people thought we have to give him alot of time to prove himself but didn't see the long term damage he was doing to the club!! Now I'm sure you weren't at at the match last night because you were busy relaxing at your villa in Spain belittling people(Does it make you feel better about yourself?). Now I'm pretty sure that you don't go to many matches at all gauging from some of the posts you have written in the past. Half the team last night were decent but the defence was atrocious and I can see signs of improvement. Southampton were the best team I have seen play at this level, their passing and movement were superb. But the signings we have made look pretty decent and have improved the quality in our squad from last year, but atm we are only half a team and getting players in takes time. I have every confidence we have the right man in charge and am pleased of course not by the results so far but the job Jewell has done, we will get there in the end, we just need patience. We were/still are a mess, if it comes to september and we have noone in then I'd be worried.
