God save the queen made it to no1 in the charts. But was banned from being played.

My mate Sadeep at school used to live above the corner shop his old man owned. He used to gather up orders for beer and ***s In class on a Friday afternoon and his old man would have it ready for us by 6pm.
Canny ****ing Indian corner shop owner had no qualms about selling booze n ***s to 14 year old lads

It was No1 in every chart except the BBCs. They actually cooked the books so they didn’t have to play it.
Brilliant bit of marketing from Malcolm McClaren, who spread the rumour that the authorities were going to ban the record from sale in the shops, so if you wanted to buy it you’d better do so as soon as it came out. Thousands of people did, causing it to go straight in at No1.
