Obertan back to Manchester wouldn't be so bad.

Can I put the proviso in there that he is far enough away that we do not have the negative gravitational effect of his head playing havoc with the North East tides?

No, you can't - simply because I'd really like Poyet to have a moment of utter madness and sign him up.

As long as he isn't able to play in the derby game I won't mind.

We need to be ready for huge disappointment this window. We're in no danger of going down meaning we'll be in no rush to pay over the top for a Cabaye replacement.

We'll sort that in the summer instead.

It's disappointing that you see Baines signing a new deal at Everton (a club that hasn't had a penny to scratch their arse with for the best part of a decade). However they've signed well, spent big in the summer and are clearly moving forward. Squad wise we're pretty much on a par with them too. They have no strikers (Lukaku & Traore on loan) and I'd say our midfield is slightly better than theirs. They're better at the back though. We really should be both able to, as well as looking to complete with them on and off the field.

The club hierarchy must be ecstatic as to how this window is turning out, once again. As soon as it opens the general clamour among fans is "right, we better sign some f**king players this window!". By the last week, however, it becomes "let's just get to the end without losing anybody and I'll be happy". That way they can spin it into some kind of success story if indeed we don't lose a player yet don't add either.

    Cabaye: bid rejected.

This is on the NUFC.com page.

Sunday brought confirmation that Paris St. Germain had lodged an offer in the region of €17m (£14m) for Magpies midfielder Yohan Cabaye - which was then rejected.

PSG are expected to submit an increased bid, with coach Laurent Blanc admitting interest in signing either Cabaye or AS Roma midfielder Miralem Pjanic. The Serie A side made it known on Friday that they have no interest in selling their 23 year-old Bosnian and have had no bids.

It remains to be seen whether any other clubs now enter the bidding for Cabaye and if this development will result in him missing this Tuesday's visit to Norwich. Leaving it a bit late.

Following a failed £10m bid for his services from Arsenal last August, the French international downed tools and missed our season-opener at Manchester City, before negotiations with the club saw him return in the third league game of the season, against Fulham.

That came 48 hours before the window closed, with Alan Pardew commenting at the time about Cabaye that:

"We've marked his agent's card that he needs to do his business early. If there is a bid to come then let us know. We've had no other bids yet otherwise we won't be able to replace him and we won't sell then."

Whether such considerations are set aside this time should the bids reach an acceptable level remains to be seen. The transfer window closes at 11pm this coming Friday - it's shaping up to be a long week...

    From Sky gossip:

One of the major stories from the weekend was Newcastle turning down an offer from Paris St Germain for Yohan Cabaye, believed to be in the region of £14million. Reports in France now suggest that PSG remain keen to sign the Frenchman and could return with an improved bid early this week. L’Equipe also says that the Magpies have identified Clement Grenier of Lyon as a possible replacement. It is reported that a €13million bid was recently submitted for the 23-year-old playmaker, although a deal is not expected to happen this winter.

    Heard that before.....

If Cabs moved to PSG and we signed Grenier and Cabella I'd be more than happy. It's a massive sign to any up and comings in France that Newcastle is a feasible stepping stone to the Champs League and big money contracts. I'd even be prepared to have us finish 12th after losing him if we got agreements in place now to sign those 2 in the summer.

Why don't we sell Cabaye to PSG with a loan back deal until the end of the season. That way we don't need to buy in a replacement until the summer, Cabaye gets to play first team football for the rest of the season in a World Cup year and PSG get their man without any bidding war in the summer. It's not as if PSG desperately need him this season.

I don't mind Cabaye going. He's a very good footballer and deserves Champions League football and to compete for league titles etc. I'm just frustrated that we've knowx this was likely to happen all window (if not in January then in the summer) so why not get a replacement in before we sell?

It doesn't make sense and that is the frustrating thing.

Quotes from Pardew "We're doing our best to protect Newcastle, I expect him to play tomorrow". Followed by "We would need to bring someone in for sure. You can't lose someone of his abillity and not replace him".

Maybe the club are still pursuing a few deals. All we can hope for I guess.

And another "We hope to sign someone outside of the Cabaye situation and we're a little bit closer with that".

Not all doom and gloom then maybe.

    Collymore tweeted this yesterday....

PSG offer £14 mill for Cabaye apparently.

And how much for the other leg?

Norwich will be his last game IMO. Let's just hope he signs off with a bang to set us up nicely for the derby game.
