In fairness though it's only 2 games and I really do believe Bolton was a freak result. We can't over-react to these results and stop doing the things that have got us to where we are. I'm happy to go along with whatever team/tactics Bruce decides on, the only thing I disagree with is keeping the same team just on the grounds that they won the last match. I remember he said after we lost at Cardiff that he'd learnt from this and was going to start using the squad more when the games come thick and fast. I wonder if he's forgotten that now...
No shame in losing last night, they haven't lost at home since the first game of the season and they've had 20 penalties. Of course the referee gave them a nice helping hand, watching last night you could see the frustration in the players with the penalties and from that they were pulled out of position and picked off.
I honestly didn't expect to win last night despite the fans optimism on here, lets be honest Palace are a very good home side much better than away, The concern for us is the fact we have let 11 goals in the last 4 games, (8 in the last 2 away games) which isn't promotion form. Now we have got to tighten up, i think the two wing backs are great going forward but a little bit suspect at defending (sometimes to exposed). Watford are at home again on Saturday so from been 2pts ahead before last night we could go into the Burnley game 4 pts behind. This will put us under a bit of pressure but we mustn't panic. Going into the Burnley game we MUST tighten up, forget all this rubbish that they are our bogey team, were no good on TV ect because we have to go there and win no doubt about it. This isn't a time for fancy football, its a time for some of these players to realise if they want to be premier league footballers then they have to have some bottle, determination, guts, whatever it takes get to Turf moor and come back with 3pts
I agree, I think we need to approach away games in a different way to home games, maybe even go 442 just to settle things down.
We need to be more defensive away from home. That's twice in two away games we scored to get back in the game, only to concede moments later. Its not a freak conceding 4 goals away from home twice in succession, but im optimistic SB can sort it out. He did it when we lacked goals and he brought in Gedo and Boyd.
I doubt Bruce will want to go 4-4-2, it might improve our chances on the road, but I suspect he won't be keen on playing completely different formations home and away. Rather than changing the formation, we need to change the personel to suit the situation. Meyler, Quinn and Koren are too weak on the road, we need to take control of the middle of the park and play on the break. Hopefully Fathi is nearing match fitness and he'll be the missing link.
