So, we’re now ten games in, which was the magic number many of us stated would be when we could start to draw conclusions of where we’re at. Even after tonight’s fixtures, we’re in 7th spot, which I think we can all agree is very good. Our performances have been impressive at times and we’ve been able to grind out points when we’ve been up against it. Of the results, I think only the loss at Birmingham has been truly disappointing – drawing with Millwall might have seemed a bit poor on paper, but they’re a better side than many have given them credit for and results are starting to match their level of performance (currently 12th, 13 points from ten games). I’m still too nervous to suggest we can mount a playoff challenge, but we’re in a wonderful position at this stage, when the league is starting to take shape. I’d like to think we have better than average strength in depth, so hopefully we have a better chance of maintaining form than some others. There are plenty of good teams around, but perhaps not any single outstanding candidate (ala Newcastle last season) for the title, so there are opportunities out there for some of the ‘less fashionable’ clubs (including us) to achieve more than would be expected. Here’s to the next ten – COYR!
last season 10 games down 4th on 19 pts +2 GD with 15GF and 13 GA 4 Bristol City 10 19 15 13 2 W W L L W W D W W L THIS SEASON Bristol City 10 17 17 10 7 W L D D D W D W D W WE ARE 7th scored more, conceded less 2 pts short of last season
I think the test will be by the team, manager and fans when we lose one or two... BUT, So far so good
We're sitting in a good place right now and above everything else I have seen a squad that has more depth than last season, so I don't expect any wheels to fall off soon. The depth is also a good point with fill-ins available for most positions when injury or suspensions hit us and for the first time in many seasons we aren't screaming for better players to be brought in to fill the voids. When the inevitable losses come let's hope we have the sustainability to weather the storm and the toys don't start being thrown from the pram by unhappy dissatisfied players. I almost have a feeling that dressing room tantrums aren't on our radar this season and perhaps the vanished players from last season could have been part of that problem and although there was a potential conflict with Aden it all seems to have settled down nicely. Onwards and upwards.
