team mates yes, officials, maybe not. don't want word getting back to KL before it's signed and sealed.

    For the record, I think there are two likely possibilities. Either;

    1. There never was an agreement, formal or informal.
    2. There was, and the board knew about it for some time, and waited until the summer to tell Morgan they weren't going to be acknowledging it.

That's what I'm leaning to as well, which begs the question: why the hell did they wait until the summer to tell him they weren't going to uphold the agreement? That was blatantly going to piss him off.

they probablyfobbed him off and anticipated an acceptable offer or that he would understand that they were not going to sell him underpriced. also that we wouldn't lose as many players as we did.

tough luck morgan. you didn't get a contract.

I would say it's up to him to ensure it's still in place after the change in management.

Maybe, just maybe, Cortese said something along the lines that if we didn't get the progress we expected, or the players signing that he wanted, or the new even higher salaried contracts from the owner that he wanted to give, that Cortese wouldn't stand in Morgan's way the following summer... you know, "give me the year son and see what I can deliver" type of approach. It is highly plausible this could have happened over a glass of red wine in the board room, with just Morgan, his agent and Cortese present. Remember NC was very, very good at selling the dream.

Someone not being able to see that a man who single handedly ran the club and liked to do these 'special treatment' things with the players, may just be blinded by their adoration of Cortese. :)

or 3. as my post above, Cortese, having control over everything, did it himself with Morgan and his agent.

Maybe they believed MP that he was staying and thought MP would convince Morgan

I don't think that would excuse them from purposefully letting him believe he was going to be sold for half a year. They should have told him as soon as Cortese left that this agreement might not be upheld.

As above. That's taking a gamble. They should have had an honest chat with Morgan months ago and communicated the possibilities to him. They could not guarantee they'd be able to uphold an agreement to sell him (assuming there was one).

Given the circumstances, and bearing in mind Morgan's twattish tweet, the most likely scenario is that there never was any such agreement, and that Morgan's pique is down to Pochettino promising him privately that he would take him with him when he left. Once Koeman was in place and with an idea of who he wanted to keep, the board had to break the bad news to Morgan.

He should certainly be having a very long chat with his agent about his responsibilities.

IF, it wasn't just a promise from Cortese.

We've no evidence that they did anything other than fob him off. we've had a solicitor specialising in employment law join the club since then. We may have had nothing to tell him.

Everything indicated that nobody got any answers and were simply told to wait.

worth noting that the daily mail article never mentions that the current regime told him they would honour cortese's agreement, only that schneiderlin thinks it's good enough. He could well have simply gone to the world cup full of himself as he returned.

Even if it was just a promise from Cortese, Morgan clearly thought it was still standing after Cortese went, so unless Morgan is a complete buffoon, he must have been under the impression that the remaining board was aware of the promise. He'd have to be pretty stupid to assume the promise was still standing if no one remaining at the club had ever known about it.

remember the quote "the board know my position"

does that sound like an accord? doesn't to me.
