When Bale was injured I saw Spurs trying to play Dempsey or Sigurdsson on the left against Chelsea. Their lack of depth was embarrassing.
Exactly. We do not have any top class wide players at the moment, but we do have more depth than Spurs. Walcott,AOC,Podolski,Rosicky,Gervinho and even Arshavin. All of those are internationals and can contribute. Spurs have Bale,Lennon and Dempsey.
I think Walcott is better than Lennon Yes. Chamberlain is potentially better than Bale. (who is massively overated - good player nonetheless) But that's irrelevant becauses as has been pointed out we have the FAR stronger squad depth. Podolski,Walcott, Gervinho,The Ox, Arshavin, Rosicky also Carzorla. vs Bale, Lennon and Sigurdsson.
Walcott is a fantastic winger - check his goal and asisst stats over the last few years all comming from a wide position. Say what you like about him not making the right choices but he is more productive than most other wingers in the league. It pains me to see so many Arsenal fans not giving him the credit he deserves (yet they will all be whining when he decides to piss off somewhere else). Overall Chelsea clearly have the best wingers. As for Arsenal vs Spurs - as has been said the depth of Arsenals squad in wide positions makes them hands down winners over Spurs who have just there first choice wingers and no-one to fill in.
Yes shwan - Chelsea play with a different type of winger - similar to how Arsenal played with Nasri and Arshavin on the wings - skill and trickery chosen over kick and run with a cross at the end. Personally i prefer wingers in the mold of Mata/Hazard/Arshavin as opposed to Valencia, Walcott, Bale type players - but each type has there benefits and it depends on the style of play. Most teams give defensive responsibilities to the wide players including Chelsea so im not sure what you point about winning titles is all about. Occasionally a player is given free reign not to track back but usually this means the team uses a DM who is good at offering cover. Either way when it comes to wingers Chelsea are at the top, Utd have solid wingers, City have decent wingers, but not as great as they think. Arsenal probably slot in somewhere around there above Liverpool and spurs.
I would much rather have two first rate wingers on the left and right than a motley crew of the not-really-good, the not-really-wingers, and the don't-really-want-to-play-either-on-the-wing-or-for-the-club.
You have one 'first rate' winger in Bale. Lennon is nowhere near the best wingers/wide players in the PL. Way to inconsistent and misses too many games through injuries.
Don't think so mate. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/stats/assists/_/league/eng.1/year/2011/barclays-premier-league?cc=5739 Espn >>>>
Lennon being too injury prone is a fair criticism and has been a major problem. Though he certainly has his critics, a healthy Lennon, as he's been this year, is outstanding, and has been one of our handful of most effective players. While he's never gotten a lot of goals or assists, the impact his runs have in giving us a lift and putting the other team on the back foot is hard to overstate. They brought us back into the game against Chelsea, to name just the latest example. He also tracks back very well. I might also mention that I've always rated Walcott, and would also call him first rate.
Until he completes at least ONE full season and keeps up his form or somewhere close to it, I would not place him in the 'first rate' bracket of wingers/wide players in the PL. I think that's fair.
Sorry still wrong even the mirror says 14 http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/new...le-push-says-Alex-Ferguson-article886212.html
Bahahah 'Even the mirror'. That's a good source bro. Find me a source more reliable then ESPN, then i'll admit im wrong.
How about the Premier League? http://www.premierleague.com/en-gb/...tics.html/antonio-valencia#clubsTabsAttacking 14 assists. Injured half the season and still has a better Assist to game ratio than Mata.
So your saying its because Rooney is much better in the air than Torres? If you're going to put Mata in the same category as real wingers like Valencia you can't bitch about non existent criteria such as who their feeding. Its hand's down United, we have three top quality wingers whereas Chelsea have none. Players like Mata aren't wingers and if you compare them to United players using things like assists per game, goals per game, crosses per match. The stuff wingers are supposed to do, then he's found wanting. (second for assists, third for goals, rock bottom for crosses)
