My place has been one disaster after another for a couple of months now. Had the boiler go, then I needed repairs doing on the roof when we had the strong winds, and then half an electrical circuit went off. When we took the old boiler out yesterday the floorboards underneath were like a soggy Shredded Wheat (it was a water tank that cracked in the boiler), so once I've got them dried out I might find I need the floor repairing as well. The only positive to it is that I've just started working again on top of studying, I got told that I'd got the job about an hour before the first disaster struck.

Some Good news on top of Really Bad news then. Sorry to hear. Are you sure that you dont live @ Watery Fowls by chance ? sorry sounds like a Fawlty Towers establishment to me.

Well I was at college when I got the email about the job, and then I walked home to find the boiler pouring through my neighbour's ceiling. I said at the time I was really glad I'd checked my emails before I left because it meant I at least knew I could pay for the repair/replacement. If I hadn't looked I'd have probably just curled up in a ball in the middle of the floor and started crying not knowing what I was going to do. Scotland at the start of winter is not the place to be without heating and without the finances to get heating.

Been fortunate and had a mild winter, I think the coldest the flat has got has been about 7 degrees (I'm not living in it remember, just popping back for post), would have been a lot worse if it had been cold and burst pipes. The boiler was the original installation from the late 70s so I can't say it's unexpected that it needs replacing, and the winds were over 100mph. Can't complain at £390 for the repairs to the roof, including a load of guttering that got smashed by flying tiles, especially since it's split 3 ways. Other than £5 last summer towards paint for the fence round the garden it's the only maintenance I've had in 5 years, it's just unfortunate it's all been at once.
