Heck, I remember 2 years ago when Ajax played Auxerre, the French FA gave Auxerre the weekend off to prepare for the CL game!

The problem is some national associations are still in control of their game and therefore see it as a club representing the league, they do well and its presents a good picture in terms of the health of the league. The PL run things here and their stock is so high they see no need to pander to any such notions! Definite handicap but I suppose it means our younger players will be exposed and given an opportunity to gain some really useful experience.

Generally we will get till the sunday to recover, but ESPN have taken the Chelsea game so the PL have no choice.

Team which is likely to start imo...

---------Elliott----------
Tav--Willo---Good--Raylor
Marv--Abeid-Bigi-Fergy
-------Vuckic---------
------Campbell---------

Provided Marv is fit, Good may not play, but dunno who else would go in. Fergy is another one, potentially replaced by Obertan or Sammy. If Shola is fit he may also start just for experience. Pards seems to pick Elliott over Harps in cup games, though maybe this year one will do Europe and one Domestic.

I know what you're saying Davey but they do have a choice. Stop following every shred of money there is!

Well yeah, but it was the choice of be on TV or move the game. I do think we can use this particular game as a development game, though hopefully without underestimating it, safe in the knowledge we still have the home game to back ourselves up. Granted we wouldn't want this if we came up against the likes of Inter, Lyon etc. We'll see what the future holds though.

Sorry but... that's not how a propper youth system works, to just use them for EL matches or when you've got 2 matches in 48 hours... it's starting to make sense why your youth can't keep up with the league and drops out everytime a club makes a big purchase. The EPL might be the biggest league in the world but it's certainly not because of the English players in it... besides Rooney ofcourse

We're (hopefully) not planning on using them entirely in EL games, it's just a good opportunity to give them a taste of competetive first team games before we throw them into a PL game. As much as players need to get league experience, they also need to not be thrown in too early, or else it could sabotage their development imo.

One of the problems we have. Don't get me started, I'll get into to all sorts I'd change. From wage caps, to foreigner rules (I'm not arsed about EU laws!!) but I think wrestling back control is nigh on impossible. We've sold out.

To be accurate the decision not to allow the change to Sunday was taken by the Metropolitan Police who will not allow it to be the same day as Nottinghill Carnival.

A foreigners cap has nothing to do with your home grown talents... It's about having faith in a youth program and that the players they deliver, UK nationality or not. But clubs like Chelsea and Arsenal go on a spending spree as soon as they think they lack a second player on a critical position. Good example: Liverpool now have Suarez and Carroll with on of them always on the bench. Rodgers wants another striker in. WHY?? If you need a THIRD option striker go search in your own youth squads or loanies and find one there. Out here in The Netherlands that process usually starts with second option strikers and defenders. Midfielders aplenty, but if they're sold the club firstly looks at it's own youth, if no one is ready for the league then they start shopping, except for PSV and FC Twente which are the ManU and Chelsea of the Dutch league:laugh:

To help the national team, a foreigner cap is necessary for me. The bottom line is the majority of youngsters English clubs produce should be English. And they should be given opportunity. The problem you have is that it is far too easy to go and buy a foreign player pretty cheap rather than look inwardly. Asking the clubs to change their ways is not realistic, they don't care. I would change it for them!

Look at us we discuss buying a Carroll back for 15m or going abroad for Guidetti etc. We have young Campbell looking like he could make the grade. I'd like Carroll but its like buying into the philosophy that taking a risk on a youngster is unthinkable because naturally there is a little risk. We've stopped giving them opportunities because we're scared of falling behind and losing out in monetary terms. So everyone finds the cheapest option which is foreign established talent. Infuriating. What Dutch clubs and Spanish clubs do is nothing special they are just braver and not so worried about finance.

That is Carnival Day 2.

Fair enough. Should have been rearranged to help us out but I'm sure any opportunities for that will be taken up by meaningless international friendlies instead. The reserves/youngsters will hopefully do the business because we'll need to be at full tilt for you lads I suspect.

I agree, totally ****ed up but with us in the super cup and then the world club thingy and then the cl there wasn't that much choice. Thank god they are binning some of those stupid friendly dates after this season.

UEFA should have made Amtromis play a day early
