Kenny needs time in the same way that a room full of monkeys can type the complete works of Shakespeare if given enough time: it's a nice idea and theoretically it works, but we all know it ain't never going to happen.
One thing I've noticed about the Wigan game, there wasn't much goal-line technology available from any of the cameras to see if Pogrebnyak's goal was over the line. The shot from the Hammersmith roof camera couldn't show if it had crossed. What if that had been crucial to our survival ?
Goal line technology would involve putting a chip in the ball and a sensor in the goal area so that a machine automatically indicated when the full ball had crossed the line. It wouldn't be like a TMO review in Rugby.
The biggest argument against goal-line technology is that it would have denied us seeing QPR have that Clint Hill goal disallowed. I laughed like a drain at that one.
I also noticed that it went totally unmentioned on MOTD. Now if we can cast our minds back to the Chelsea/Tottenham game where the Mata 'goal' was given, MOTD showed us 20 different angles with about 50 different replays, also with endless analysis. What if Wigan had scored a late goal and not us, I wonder if QPR or Blackburn would have kicked up a fuss considering the score was 1-1 and we were well on top at this point.
If Wigan had scored a late goal it would have been treated to a dose of Big Al's analysis - but it wasn't an issue really thanks to Phillipe. They didn't show Clint's penalty shout early on either.
Haha gotta love Big Al. One pundit who has really surprised me with his analysis is Gary Neville on Sky. I liked Gray and Keys as much as the next man but Neville (who I always thought was a prat) has been a breath of fresh air. Couldn't believe he called the Murphy penalty call at OT a stonewall penalty, Fergie mustn't have liked that!
I also think Gary is good - I hope SS spend some time looking around for some new talent- if Murphy or Lampard don't go into coaching they would be good pundits too. Please no more of Souness or Redknapp. Souness was wearing criminally tight trousers with a glass of water strategically placed in front of the gonads to magnify them yesterday. The more Souness elaborates on a point the angrier he seems to become. Jamie just babbles like a small child testing out words he has heard his parents using.
Hahahaha I wish the BBC would also look for new talent, I can't stand half of them. The only one I can listen to is Lee Dixon and on occasion Lawro and Hansen, but the Final Score team (Gabby, Garth, Claridge, Pallister, Holland, Mills) are absolute tosh.
I agree that Dixon is good. I've also got a lot of time for Pat Nevin. He does more Radio 5Live than BBCTV, but he was on MOTD2 once. He should be on a lot more often. Claridge annoys me as a co-commentator, but I enjoy him as a pundit - he's good value talking around the subjects of football, poor value when describing an actual game in progress. I think Gabby is a good anchor(wom)an. That's not meant as a set-up for salacious sexism, I genuinely mean that I think she's good at her job. Colin Murray used to irritate the hell out of me on Radio 1, but I really enjoy him now he's moved into sports broadcasting. Bandy, you haven't mentioned Shearer. I think he has improved but I'd still happily see him and Lawro disappear from our screens.
I've noticed Shearer being quite forthright in his opinions of late- as though the criticism that he didn't actually have one stung him a big. It just seems now that he is desperately overcompensating and saying things for the hell of it, ala Hansen. I like Nevin, he seems to be an intelligent speaker. Some of the pundits who do the Breakfast Club might be worth bringing in.
One of the things I really like about Nevin is that unlike most of the others, he remains unbiased when talking about one of his former clubs. And he's got excellent taste in music. Who are the Breakfast Club pundits and what channel is it on?
Breakfast Club is the wrong name sorry= Sunday Supplement- it's various sports writers from different papers. Some aren't great, but generally more insight than you get post-match from the ex-players
Totally agree. I love listening to Oliver Holt on the Sunday Supplement, these guys are generally well spoken and know a lot about the game considering they write about it day in day out. They also have no obvious bias having not played for any of the teams they write about, which is lovely. Cappy, I like Shearer but he's too beige for me. He says things you would expect him to and nothing else. I could literally give you a manuscript of what he would say about a game if I knew the result. Like Lawro, he has become far too predictable.
Dixon, Lineker (love it when he winds Hansen and Lawro up!), Neville and Nevin are great. Hansen is alright, but Lawro and Shearer can do one.
I think, broadly speaking, we all seem to be agreeing about this. Who are you people and what have you done with the regular contributors to this forum?
Talking about fatties, Mr Mason looked as if he's had a fair helping of pies - it wasn't exactly the fastest game of all time on Saturday and you wouldn't call him 'upwardly mobile'. Also, he did seem to get in the way quite a bit. On technology I've been searching in vain for a video of the tackle on Demps in the first couple of minutes and which of course wasn't shown on MOTD. Anybody got an appropriate link?
