Pfft, fatty kenny is useless at Sunday league level. Not much to say your better than him. Kasper is a less than average keeper who is an excellent shot stopper, that doesnt make a good keeper though.
Hi Sunderland fan here to have a sensible conversation. Having read most of the posts on this thread you seem to be jumping from very confident, your going to smash us 3 nil to down right pessimists if you play with out wingers! As I have not watch a great deal of Championship football since we were last there six years ago I am not that familiar with most of your players, you obviously have the forward from Brighton who Gus rated when he had him and Nugent, who we were all pleased didn't sign for us a few years back and went to Pompy where he never set the world on fire, other than that I am sorry to say I don't know much more hence my comments can really only be about our lot. I know we shipped 8 against Southampton, however in the remaining games we have not conceded to many indeed I think we would have about the third best record as far as goals conceded if you exclude that game. So don't get the idea that we are weak at the back. We are slower due to the absence of both full backs, as we then have the oldest defence in the top flight, however it is a very experienced set up with a bit of quality in there as well. In the midfield area we will have Catts back in and he is no longer a red card waiting to happen, Gus has got him to stay on his feet more and the red mist no longer comes down if he makes a mistake. His cards now are more a case of his reputation than his actions. Larson is having a good season and has finally scored with a free kick for the first time in almost three years, so his confidence with those should be back, which means you need to be very careful not to give a free kick away to the right side of your defence just out side the book which is his preferred area, With both our Italian and Argentina international midfielders back in training it will be interesting to see if either start on Saturday, if they do they are both by far the most gifted players on our books and can turn a defence inside out. Then there is the problem child that is Adam Johnson, on his day he can walk through teams but far to often he has run into blind alleys this season so has yet to complete a full 90 mins this year. Buckley who has started instead of him a few times can be very quick and direct and runs at defenders with the ball, personally I see him as more of an impact sub to throw on as the defenders legs are going. Add into the mix Bridcutt, who had his best game for the club last week and Gomez and I have no idea who will play this week! Up top there is Fletcher, if fit, who is back to his best both in finishing and hold up play bring other midfield runners into play. Whickham who I assume from other comments on here must have a habit of scoring against you lot, has tended to be out wide, which is not his best position. With the other players returning to fitness he might well start n the bench or start up top by himself if Fletcher is not fully fit. Hope the helps your understanding of our lads. On another note I understand that with our end being sold out to season cards holders who have been to at least 9 away games in the last three years there are few lads with tickets for the home areas how will they be greeted? Thanks for a top post! For us it is just frustrating as we saw that at the beginning of the season we played with wingers and won. Then we changed and stopped winning and its just very frustrating to see us not change back to how we were when it is so so clear to everyone else what we need to do. As its got so ridiculous now, i think that we will actually revert back to wingers - meaning our team will be lifted and the fans. Its go to the stage, for me anyway, where we see the teamsheet and if we have 4 cm's on it you know we have lost before a ball if even kicked. If that happens again, you will spank us. Maybe not in terms of goals, but you will win and completely boss us. If we play with wingers like we did at the beginning of the season, you will probably win but we will compete and push you every step of the way and certainly cause some problems. All we can do is hope. And i wouldnt worry about Johnson - there is something about teams and players who are out of form playing against us which just seems to reignite them...
If some of your supporters are in the home end, they need to keep quiet. Unlikely they would get a pat on the back and firm handshake. The international break may have done us a favour. Expecting a hard fought game and hoping that we will edge it.
Still consider Lonners a much better goalkeeper for Leeds United than Kasper, Lonners was actually able to collect a cross that was outside his 6 yard box. If Kasper has done fantastic for you (not seen that much of him for a while since he first joined when he still looked flappy to me but whatever) then fair enough. I prefer Silvestri to all of them personally and I'm not just saying that coz he is our current keeper. He has gotten man of the match in about 80% of our games this season (which speaks leaps and bounds of our defensive capabilities admittedly) and he is a young keeper with a hell of a lot ahead of him. Didn't really wanna get into this debate again just thought I'd add a little snippet in there...
Yes, we dabbled with 4-5-1 to no decent effect, expect 4-4-2 on Saturday, either with 4 CMs tripping over each other who have no idea what their supposed to be doing or preferably 2 CMs and 2 wingers.
Wow, you're only going one way unless you get an organised 5 man midfield. You can't be getting outnumbered in the middle of the park with the quality in this league and expect to stay up. What's Pearson thinking.
Thats the exact reason pearson is giving by playing 4 central midfielders, so as not to get over run in midfield, but having no width is killing us
No wingers? I assumed playing 4 in midfield meant two cm and two wide players, so he's bunching 4 CM's? What planet is he on? Way to over compensate. You need three CM's in this league like.
Our best football, in this division and the Championship, has always been with wingers- we've had some real quality out wide in recent years. We know it's pretty likely now that we're going to go down, however I would rather this be with wingers and playing exciting football than lumping 4 CMs in midfield. It might not work for that majority of teams, but it's how we play best and I'd like to see it happen!
We use wingbacks for our width, don't bother with wingers but have inside forwards flanks so we carry a threat both on the inside and outside. Two cm's and DM in the middle. One up top. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.
What...talk about giving up without a fight.....!! I think we are ina group of poss 9 teams that could all drop if things dony go right for us....and to be honest...there really isnt much between any of us...all except manUre of course
