Euro 2012: Trapattoni names Republic of Ireland team for finals Republic of Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni has named the team which he expects to play in next Sunday's Euro 2012 opener against Croatia. Trapattoni said the side will only change if a player is injured in Monday's friendly with Hungary. Shay Given and John O'Shea are in the line-up after recovering from injury while Kevin Doyle starts in attack. Trapattoni added that if the players remain fit, he is ready to name the same team for all three group games. Goalkeeper Given had a knee injury while defender O'Shea is fit again after an ankle problem. However, there is no place in the side for Sunderland winger James McClean. Republic of Ireland: Given, O'Shea, Dunne, St Ledger, Ward, Duff, Andrews, Whelan, McGeady, Keane, Doyle http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/18280796 Most likely the starting 11. Maybe would have had Gibson in the middle and some might have thought McClean could have started but no real surprises. 'Mon to **** Ireland, into the bastards from the first whistle
Not sure if its a good thing that we have such a settled team or a bad thing that were so predictable. I wouldn't start McCLean yet anyway, especially after McGeadys last performance. The threat of McCLean could be a kick up the backside for him... Duff could do with one too!
Anyone see the game last night? O'Shea wasn't great, nor was Doyle. Ward impressed. Walters did well also. Hungary looked a very nice side and we were lucky to get away with it.
They all qualify for Ireland the same way all them South Africans qualify for England in rugby and cricket.
Eoin Morgan yeah, I think he became a bad Irishman when he decided to play cricket for England/South africa
At least he spoke up about being tired... all the players were thinking the same, Andrews said it too. And he's dead right, over training at this stage will kill their chances... maybe thats why we have so many injury concerns!
No they were not. I saw an interview with Ward yesterday and he said the training was fine and he could'nt see why anyone would have a problem with it but I suppose hes not a whiney bitch.
I finally heard what McGeady said. It sounds like he was misrepresented a little. To call a guy who regularly travels the entire continent to play for his country, a whiny bitch is a little harsh.
A whiney bitch? U like McGeady yeah? Actually Andrews said in the media too, and all the players wanted a rest, Andrews: “You don’t train every single day when you’re at your club. It was a case of . . . we have an itinerary and it was pencilled in as a day’s training. But the lads spoke to the manager and came to the conclusion that a day off would be best for all concerned. It was just as simple as that, really.”
