Same as mine apart from you having Sagbo instead of Graham and Brady instead of Boyd. I'm not sure that Brucie will start Brady after last week and his comments after the game. I put Graham in as the lone striker, as I feel he holds the ball up and brings people in better but on the flip side of that, Sagbo is our only recent scorer, so who knows. I fancy the 4-2-3-1 system, as I think it will give us a bit more movement and creativity going forward but can revert to a 4-5-1 when we haven't got the ball. If he did play Brady left, I'd be tempted to go with Boyd instead of Koren and then he and Brady could interchange positions as well.

I am concerned that SB might go 3-5-2 and like one or two others have mentioned, with the pace and trickery of Suarez, Sturridge and Couthino it could be a very uncomfortable afternoon!

I can understand the comments about our wide players, Elmo especially, but the thing is that we don't have any creativity in the middle to unlock a defence, so the only way we're realistically score goals is by Elmo regaining his form and putting dangerous balls into the box for Sagbo to head or for Koren to claim the knock downs.

For me Huddlestone needs to start doing a bit more, he's got some lovely touches and his range of passing is brilliant, but he needs to get himself further forward to cause more of a threat of defences, otherwise he's just going to be spraying in front of them where it's easy to re-organise.

Maybe in the side I picked you could go with Meyler for Elmo and move Koren wide, letting Huddlestone and Livermore attack a bit more knowing that Meyler will be there to cover and tidy up, and still have the energy to get forward as and when.

the years tick by and we still lack goals..

Gary Alexander bagged loads once, then Deano & Campbell 07/08.. then it dried up..

Fryatt did a decent season for a low scoring team, then Simpson, Aluko & Gedo for short spells.. Brady a couple this season..

Where's yer Edwards or Payton these days?

    I miss Payton <wah>

Don't we all. Oh for a regular goal scoring striker.

Funny thing is both Payton and Deano were converted midfielders!

Might be wrong but I think he means out and out centre forwards.

Almost every window since I started going we've been looking for a striker who can score goals!

Our luck with strikers over the years is incredible really. I can't think who our last 20-goal a season striker was? Deano and Fraizer got 15/16, Fryatt got 16, Burgess got 18 in Division 3 I think so must have been before that? Did Alexander get 20?

I think we'll either go a 5-3-2 (if Chester is fit) with him, Davies and Faye as CB's, and chuck Alex Bruce as a midfielder. How I strongly hope we DON'T do this.

Most likely is probably 4-5-1 with Sagbo up front, although I agree that Graham could be better suited, or maybe even Gedo could be given a chance.

Or there's 4-4-2 with Sagbo and either Graham or Gedo up front. I'd go for Graham personally. With the exception of Chelsea on the opening day, have Sagbo and Graham actually started up front as a partnership?

Bruce won't play midfield. If we wanted a third midfielder it'll be Meyler.

I really hope that would be the case. Got to admit I don't mind Bruce as a centre back, but in midfield I always felt the team played better without him. Meyler offers much more.

I thought last week we not only lacked pace on the wings but also didn't compete in the air from corners in there box. Also i felt sorry for Tom Huddlestone he is a brilliant passer and ive read a number of times how he didn't play enough dangerous through balls but if he as not got forwards making good runs and wingers getting down the wing with pace then surely its going to affect his game so for me the team would be
    Megregor
    Rosie
Chester (if fit) simply because Liverpool play on the ground otherwise Faye but will it suit is game?
    Davies
    Figueroa
Brady (hopefully fit enough) if not Sagbo
Livermore ( we need him at !00% he a such an important player with his work rate)
Meyler( we need to add height, work rate and a tackler hopefully he will do the job)
Huddlestone ( needs runners ahead of him and as to get his passing going
Elmo ( will give more pace than Koren but must deliver good crosses and help Rosie out
Graham ( only because i think he will hold the ball up better than Sagbo how ever his pace concerns me
Overall if we are all honest even if we had our strongest 11 this would be one of our hardest games of the season lets hope for 100% improvement on last week and the crowd as one and at there very best we all know it will be very difficult but at the end of the day its 11 against 11 you just never know

Still looks too much like last weeks line up for me, with only a couple of personnel/positional changes. Can't imagine it would have a massively different outcome but......................

I'd rather see Faye up front than Graham to be perfectly honest, I think he's more likely to score!!

    Alright Fella's

If like most people think we are on a hiding to nothing against the scouse twats, why not go down fighting and play the way we did last season and go 3-5-2. At least we may be beaten having a go at them rather than have them completely over run us and score at will.

Or god forbid just play with the passion of the second half against Chelski first game of the season.

At least then if we give a good account of ourselves most of us would be happy with a decent/good performance if the result as expected goes against us.

For me i would go :-

    McGregor

    Chester(if fit)Faye Davies Figgy

    Rosie Meyler Huddlestone Livermore Boyd

    Graham Gedo

Pity i am in China right now this is a game i would have liked to have seen, i dont think it will be as one sided as some think. i just hope the team that does turn out are ready to give 110% because that will be what it takes to get something from this game if anything.

I agree fozmaster. I said the same in a couple of earlier posts in this very thread. Sort of nothing to lose in a way - not that we'd want to be on the wrong end of a hiding, but I think it's a risk worth taking. The formation can change during the game if necessary but it might just be what's needed to bring Elmo back to his best.
