JWP must soon be looking to be a starter. He has been exceptional coming on recently with his deliveries alone. One of the best set piece deliveries in the league lets be honest. So consistent. Could easily see him replace Davies in that role. That being said perhaps when Gaston is ready that is a role for him. I hope he pushes on because he will be a quality player, I just hope its with us and not another team.
I don't really like the argument that JWP is young, so don't start him or don't play him for the full 90 - no one is saying this about Shaw so I don't think it is any different for JWP. However I don't think MP thinks in this manner, it is purely tactical for him. I think Lambert will start and the score at 60 minutes will decide who goes on or off, but I suspect it will be JWP for Davis, Jay Rod for Osvaldo
Can't really decide how I'd like to see us go after them, certainly not in great shape so really any strong team we put out should beat them, but as we all know it is not that easy with how teams set up at St. Mary's these days. I shall be watching them tomorrow with great interest.
Lambert for Rodriguez the only change for me. Thought Davis had a good game too and I was impressed with the speed we moved the ball around at times
I reckon we'll start with the same team as at United but with Lambert back instead of JRod. Mauricio tried the same brave move as Adkins (1st game against United) by keeping Rickie as an impact sub...sadly without the quick goal. He won't try that against Fulham. JWP to come on later. Onionman says Luke looks sturdier than James...true, but he's missed out with injuries/sickness far more. JWP is a deceptive little fella...I think he's a footballer's footballer...not noticed by the media as much as other young Prem stars, but he scarcely puts a foot wrong. I watched him in the England U21 match...he played the whole game...never missed a pass, crossed the ball like Beckham, always made himself available, and scored the all important second goal from a free kick. He was obviously the designated free kick specialist for the U21s as he just took the ball. In previous U21 matches, he also took most of the corners. Well done to Mauricio for recognising this strength and encouraging him to take extra training to develop it.
Good post. JWP is obviously very well thought of at the club, he goes about his business in an un-spectacular manner and can only get better.
I think the reason we're not saying this with shaw is we don't exactly have many options there. If we had 2 others that could deputise then we may be saying don't overwork him because of his injury worries.
My apologies. Gaston was ill at the weekend which was why he was not in the squad. For Fulham game I pretty much go along with DTLW's first 11. The bench is the more contentious area for me. Davis K, Davis S, Hooivelt and J Rod are probably cast iron certainties but you can pick the other three from any of Chambers, Gaston, Cork, Guly, Fox, Yoshida, Lee - but Ill go for the first three of those to make up the bench.
Good (not that he's ill, but that he is not being frozen out). I would go with; ---------------------------------Boruc--------------------------- Clyne----------Fonte---------------Lovren---------------Shaw ---------------Schneiderlin------Wanyama-------------------- -----------------------------------------Davis------------------ -------------Lambert---------Lallana-------------------------- -------------------------Osvaldo-------------------------------- Bench- K Davis, Hoiveld, Chambers, JWP, J-Rod, Gaston, Guly (or rowe/isgrove) Don't think we need 2 CB's on the bench, would still go with Davis as he always puts in a good performance. JWP to come on for sure, he will start soon enough but I would still have Davis ahead of him to start imo. Other option play J-Rod, Lambert, Lallana and Osvaldo together as we did against palace. I think Fulham will have more bite in attack though (!) so maybe more conservative than 3 strikers and lallana.
Poor Cork, I'm ashamed of myself I forgot him. Ok Cork in for Guly. Sorry Guly, it's a cruel cruel world, a cruel cruel word!
I'd drop Osvaldo and Rodriguez to the bench. Gotta demonstrate to the players that they have to play well to be picked, and maybe they'll be more determined to prove themselves when they next get a chance. ------------Boruc Clyne---Fonte---Lovren---Shaw ----------Wanyama JWP--Davis--Schneiderlin--Lallana ----------Lambert
I agree with what you are saying although I think I'd give Osvaldo another chance. I really think its more a case of him finding the pace of game in England. It always looks a lot more hectic than European games despite the number of foreign players.
