"And yes knackered i would love our nation not to be a part of the uk" "I consider myself Welsh and Welsh only" Both of these statements reflect an underlying bias that colours your judgement. It means that anything British is to be frowned upon, to be avoided and even reviled. You're entitled to your view mabon but I'm also entitled to think that's small minded and pathetic in the extreme. I see nothing inconsistent in being proud of being Welsh and British. You are British like it or not and I find it sad that you're ashamed of that.
cracker have you counted them just in our side alone we have quite a few, so ban them shall we. it aint going to happen the public says so with nearly every GB match sold out...its going ahead lads.......and nothing you say or do is going to change that now.....Ban welsh players indeed. we need everyone we can get not ban them..
Valley to be a member country of FIFA you have to be a member of the UN, now the last time i looked we were a member of the UN but we are a member as the UK, if FIFA were to treat us in line with their statutes we would be known as the UK, now you seem to think that they can not merge the home nations, well they can like i have said before it would only take somebody to force a vote , you are forgetting that between russia and the former yugoslavia FIFA has expanded its countries by a further 17 member countries, FIFA would prefer less countries and we are prime candidates to make that happen, Now Dai if you were following the discussion you will note that this is about the olympic team and its impact on Wales etc as seperate footballing nations, the history of swansea, cardiff etc is such that they have been members of the english leagues since shortly after their inception so i really don't know what that would have to do with this argument
Dai if they don't give a f**k for our national team what right do they have to play in it, if they gave a f**k they would be looking to protect it, because thats all they are doing is undermining the FAW, i would prefer a team of players who put Wales first and not their ego's, "olympians" rubbish, members of the athletics team gb dont even want them involved because they will take the limelight away from their efforts, ban them without a doubt, at least we will have a team who give a f**k about the welsh national side.
I am not forgetting anything MabonJack, but you are using a lot of assumptions to base your arguments on, and to be fair so am I, but I have no choice as the whole argument is based on a huge IF. As knackered said you are using the whole GB issue as you hate the idea of it, I really think that is where you argument is. You want a welsh nation separate completely from the rest of the UK, so that means our own money, our own embassies around the world, members of the UN, members of the EU though I suspect you want us out of that as well. Border controls at the seven bridge and every other place bordering England. The welsh teams in the league system as we know it to go back into a welsh league, it will destroy the clubs, but it's okay we will be welsh. I am sorry but your welsh vision courtesy of figment of the imagination ala an extreme version of Plaid Cymru is not going to happen. The same as FIFA merging countries.
knackered You are quite right you are entitled to your view, and i will always fight to defend that right. In the context of this thread, i am only bised in my wish to ensure that Wales survives as a proud footballing nation, and we as supporters and the players should do all we can to protect that for those that have gone before and those that will come in the future. As for my view of britain, i dont have one it means zilch to me, now because my view differs from yours does not make my veiw pathetic, i choose to consider myself Welsh not British, to me and many like me that is quite a valid choice to make, and my loyalty is to a flag Y ddraig goch that represents my nation, not the union flag that chooses not to recognise my nation. i will respect your choice to be considered welsh/british, just afford me the coutesy to respect my choice
Valley you are taking this thread on to the political arena if it is the will of the welsh nation for that to happen then so be it but i think you will find it is happening , now i will say this you really have confidence in FIFA that they will protect the interests of the home nations, i dont share your confidence, that is the reason i want the team gb boycotted,
Last time I looked it was British troops that have fought for those rights over the generations that some of us now take for granted.
Now with due respect i am talking about not606, and your right to state your view on here, what has the british army got to do with not606, and the right of Wales to be an independant footballing nation.
Personally I'm proud to be Welsh and British, being a little older than most realise the need to be classed as one nation as we could well be under German rule now had we not stuck together in war time. As for sports, under the Olympic umbrella we are Great Britain and therefore have put together a young team to represent us. Of course we still have our Wales, England, Scotland and Northern Ireland teams and I don't think that will ever change despite concerns to the contrary. It does seem a little contradictory though that some want us to be completely seperate yet would bulk at our beloved Swans being forced out of the Premier League for not being an English team.
TeamGB is all of it, to boycott it is an extreme measure, judging by the numbers turning up to support the torch relays you are very much the minority here. The problem here is that you want all things in welsh independence that suit you, like it or not your hatred of everything British is a polical thing and your argument here is a part of that. You say we have to trust FIFA , of course we do we are members of that organisation, perhaps we should leave FIFA then we have no problems with them. I don't trust politicians but I we have no option but to let them do a job for us, the same with these organisations that control anything to do with sport.
rubbish mabon ....i dont think you have a clue what you are on about...we are british and welsh at the same time....the olympics is the time when you represent britain and this rubbish we are welsh so we should not play bollox.....who will represent great britain?? nobody according to you as we will all be banned...dont talk rubbish ffs its only sport and as long as you are british you are entitled to play for britain...nothing whatsoever to do with welsh football, they are part of GB and therefor has the right to represent great britain
Just saying Dai there's a huge difference between having to have all players being somewhat from Wales on the national team to none of them having to be from Wales in a club situation . Looking at the basic conditions of what country you can play for as a player , some players have the opportunity to play for four or more countries of there choosing . To ask players like Allen & Taylor to give up opportunity to play in the Olympics within these conditions while looking at these other players having so many choices is bad enough , but to banish them from playing for Wales because of it is harsh & wrong . P.S. Blatter or FAW , I wouldn't trust either because of the commitment they have for there own survival .
hey dai you be what you want, but dont decide for me , i would suggest that you are talking bollox dai, we are 4 seperate football nations, Wales,England,Scotland,N ireland, the olympic team is a token team that they wheel out whenever its convenient, dai do you know the last time they played was in 1972, now tell me dai who has been representing team gb football in last 40 years, well let me tell you nobody, now because the games are in london they want a football team, now dai who said that they were not entitled to play, what i said was that because there is a very real risk that we could merge as a british association, and Wales would along with the other football associations lose their autonomy, are you still with me dai, as far as i am concerned any welsh player who plays for team gb football would be putting at risk our national team if our players joined it, and if they are prepared to do that they dont deserve to wear the red shirt of Wales. And dai do not underestimate the power of politics in sport, ask the english why they were humiliated when they failed to get the world cup for 2018.
breezy their actions could be responsible for our future players not having the opportunity to play football for the country of their birth, which is Wales
I'm not going to argue with your believes anymore Mabon , except to say you & you alike could have a bearing on the future of guys like Taylor and Allen when they want to tell there grandkids about there Olympic experience but can't because of apple & orange scenarios in international football . Cheers !
Valley the FAW,SFA and FAI have asked their players to boycott the football team. this has nothing to do with the others
