The taxi ride continues today at home to Leyton Orient, this will be the first home game i have been to in a while. Missed two consecutive league games due to ill health and i was really not motivated enough for the FA Cup. So it's waterproofs at the ready today because looking at that weather outside at 9.30ish in the morning it looks like i'm going to be drowned. But i'm looking forward to seeing the new guy Doughty, it appears he's getting some good ratings, and also i guess the new Brighton lad will start today Adam Chicksen. Hoping for three points and that we have now turned a corner after our fantastic JPT win, so good luck lads and come on you Gills....
I think the draw today in the next round against orient will keep Taylor in a job until after the semi final. I can't see Scally rocking the boat as he will see it, with Wembley on the horizon. And if we win today it will give a bit of optimism that we will beat them in the cup and even if we don't beat them today we may beat them in the cup. I reckon Taylor will still be here till Christmas at least
Firstly -well done lads. That was much better today - but there's still much work to do before the taxi can be put in the garage. There was still a lot of negativity - again, especially when defending corners. Can somebody tell Kedwell that he needs to return to 'blasting' his penalties. He's been poor when he chooses placement. If today's pen had been 'smashed', there's little chance of the keeper holding the ball - allowing for a 2nd bite from a rebound. Was Taylor surprised when Orient made it 2-2 from yet another cross ? He should have been screaming for these to be cut out before they reached our 6 yard box. We then got lucky when the Os went for the winner and got caught out on our breakaway. Cody showed what he can do when he gets the ball in the penalty box - great finish. There was quite a bit of good football played by individuals in the team. Glimpses of genuine quality existed at times ( when the ball wasn't always being played from side to side.) It is THIS talent to which I have eluded - that we do possess - but not seen too regularly. Can I please ask for more !
There is no better feeling in football than scoring a last gasp injury time winner (what a finish from Cody) especially when you have conceded a injury time equaliser and are down to 10 men. I was pleased we tried a different formation with the 4-3-3 and having two pacy wide players is what I like to see. The one change I would have made was to have an attacking midfielder rather than a defensive one when playing at home and would have started Dack instead of Hess Jr. A pretty good performance and we played some nice football and it`s excellent to see the team spirit to be so good. To win twice in a week with 10 men will do the players confidence the world of good. Keep it up Peter, the taxi is back on the rank.
Might as well leave the taxi in the garage. Scally has more or less said in his notes that Taylor is safe until May even if we are relegated .That he says ,is the time for recriminations http://www.gillinghamfootballclub.com/news/article/chairmans-orient-notes-nov-15-2085078.aspx?
I think it gives the supporters more clarity if reading between the lines that is what he is saying. I have no problem with that. I suppose its obvious if i did have a vocal gripe, it would be why was MA also not given 46 games of the season, regardless of relegation in the same way. quote: the doom and gloom merchants have already written the team off as certain relegation candidates for this season given our league position, many of them refusing to attend Priestfield until we change our fortunes, a number posting harsh, hurtful and damaging messages on forums aimed at different individuals, obviously behind fictitious names, however we will be judged as a Club over 46 games of any one campaign Read more at http://www.gillinghamfootballclub.c...notes-nov-15-2085078.aspx#e5zkGFCthYkgGf8M.99 Personally i don't hide behind anything and not suggesting the comments are aimed at me, but being a supporter for 40 years, I will give an opinion, hopefully without insult. And those that know me, know i am consistent in opinion, i judge two managers, MA & PT by the same measure, there may be different stories in the background but my measure can only be on what i see and know. I will continue to attend Priestfield and as for hiding i've written to the club many a time about various things, quoting my real name and address. Funny enough there tends to be a lack of response in the past, so who's hiding from whom.
brb - well said. I don't think anyone in this forum has anything to answer for - as it concerns the gripes by Mr.Scally regarding opinions of Taylor.( or at least his football tactics ) I think the criticism in here has been fairly constructive - without purporting to be definitive answers to all the problems leading to poor results - especially as the main grievance by fans in this forum relates to too much negative play. The 'success' in games where we have been more progressive vindicate our opinions. I don't doubt that there are other forums where more graphic language is used against Taylor - on a personal basis ( which is not appropriate ) - I'd like to think that Mr.Scally doesn't have real issues with our members.
It is the changing of the rules which annoys me, Allen wasn't given 46 games, yet Scally's mate get the full season. Yes I am aware the Allen sacking wasn't all about footballing reasons but it seem a little unfair. Still that said I hope with the pressure off Taylor he can turn it around, the Orient game was crucial lets hope we can push on from here
I think that is what i more or less was trying to say...if 46 games of the season is a measure regardless of relegation, how would PS have perceived that if the supporters stated it should have been MA's measure. We can't just change the rules to fit. Well you can but it's likely to come back and bite you.
Will take a lot more than a last gasp winner against a team that is heavily out of form to convince that we have turned a corner. The fact that Dack was omitted from the starting line up again was absolutely baffling and it shouldn't take a sending off for them to get their arses into gear to grind out a win. A better team than Orient of the moment would have well and truly pulled our pants down after the sending off.
