Its all good, give it a few years and addidas will make a ball that plays by itsself as that the route we are going down, yet another thing more difficult in times gone by, controlling a football!!

Agree he looked far better for those few games and that won't be his usual contribution, but it is also true if you ain't in you can't win and he showed up to score from Kuyt and Suarez's work.

To me he hasnt' eaned an early leave, if he puts in a season this year like he did at the end of last season he can go for free next year to argentina, thats what I would tell him

for me maxi will look at it that he came for free and he should go for that.... now if there are loyalty payments in there i think he needs to drop those.

really this would be another signing on fee for him.

if you think of joe cole... he got a big up fornt payment form us and will get another form another club, ergo we will sell to get his wages gone but also to just ge tthe 5mil back we paid him!!!

    ......................................

the thing is... all of this money we paid these guys.... its all g&H losses lol... who cares? all that matter sis the age bill now.

    I agree in part.

I guess if he mentioned this to Keny long before now then I would cut him some slack, IF kenny is only findng out now then, Janruary at the earliest unless we get offered a prospect in return or offered first choice on a promising prospect:)

Maxi is a decent squad player but nothing more. Henderson, Merieles, Downing and Nzogbia will give you plenty of options for wings or wing forwards (part of 4-3-3), so no real loss for you guys.

Liverpool wideman Maxi Rodriguez want to quit the club and return to his native Argentina.

The Independent claims that Rodriguez has admitted he would love to return to his boyhood team Newell's Old Boys.

The 30-year-old played for his hometown club for three seasons after graduating from theiryouth set-up. He moved to Europe in 2002 with a transfer to Spanish side Espanyol.

But he has now told Argentinian newspaper La Capital: "When I left here, I knew I was coming back.

"The president (William Lorenzo) called me and I said yes. Now it depends on the contract I have in Liverpool, maybe that can be loosened a little."

Although his finished the season with an incredible flourish that saw him bag seven goals in three games, Rodriguez is not likely to form part of Kenny Dalglish's long-term planning at the club and could find himself a bit-part player at Anfield if he is still there next season.

Freeing up his salary could be an interesting proposition for Dalglish as he attempts to bring in younger players to form the core of a new generation at the club. But while the Reds wouldn't mind shifting him from the payroll, his salary could be a stumbling block back in Argentina.

He would have to take a hefty pay-cut if he was to agree a move back to his homeland.

What happened to the Free agent Sylvian Marveaux. He seems to have a decent left peg on him. If we are going to lose Maxi who if I believe took a wage cut (now earns 85K) to come to Liverpool we may as well get another free whose is talented younger and may cost less in wages.

This is a good thing in one way.
I can see the problems in letting someone of his overall intellgence leave. However you have to think of the long term.If this is actually true then he's doing the admirable thing,I couldn't see him lasting beyond the end of next season anyway.
The same could apply to Fabio Aurelio, there is hints that he's considering moving back to his native Brazil. He's been in Europe for the last 11 years, first in Spain and then at Liverpool,he was one of the players that Rafa managed twice.
The others being Momo Sissoko(Valencia and Liverpool),Luis Garcia(Tenerife and Liverpool) and Mauricio Pellegrino(Valencia and Liverpool).Rafa signed Sissoko as a 17 year old from Auxerre when Los Che boss.

I didn't read anything there that says he wants to go back immediately. It's hard to know exactly what is said. Some things can get lost in translation, and then journalists always try to make it into the biggest story they can.
He may be thinking of staying another season with us, or at least 'til January.
On the other hand, maybe it's best to let him go now- if he's not part of the medium term plans, there'd be no point in starting him so he'd be on his bum most of the time. He might as well be back home in the sun than keeping our bench dry in the winter.

    Mixed thoughts about this
He just started silencing his doubters and hitting goals
But if he wants to see his career out back in his boyhood club,he is 30 after all

But at the moment it is just paper talk

Wish him all the best if he does leave

My thoughts are much the same as anyone else.

He did a job for us last season, and I would be happy if he stayed, but I would also not lose too much sleep if he left.

I'd wish him all the best and move on. Don't want to though!

If you look at my avatar, I support Atletico and he was captain for us and was amazing pre injury but, unfortunatly, he never regained his for afterwards until the last couple of games for you

I'll be sad to see him go after finally finding his feet. I always rated him as he has subtle skills, knack of finding space, almost always finding a red shirt. Not one to pull out a million tricks, but thats not always what you need.

Agreed i'm surprised people are reading so much into this. He goes back home, get's interviewed (apparently) by an Argentine paper, who probably were angling for him to say he'd come back (like the English press do with Beckham all the time). He's feeling glad to be back in Argentina/is thinking about boyhood memories/wants to say the right thing and so mentions what was probably an informal chat with the President of Newell's about retiring at the club, which many South Americans are fond of doing. The 'loosening' of the contract suggests to me not that he's saying he wants to go now, but that maybe we would release him a year or so early from his 2 (according to you guys) years left.

Could be wrong but i think he'll be here at least until January. Kenny will know that bringing in a player like Maxi, with that level of experience and footballing intelligence, would cost us money we could invest in other ways. When our new singings have bedded in might be different. So yeah he'll probs go now i've bothered to say that, but i don't see why he wouldn't stay for a little longer given the way he ended the season.
