We may struggle to sign foreign players because of the restricted numbers we can have in our 25 man PL squad. This may kill a swap deal for Ayew.

How many do we have now?

Just had a look and it looks like 16, but if Barrow goes as part of Ayew then we could take the defender as well. The most ridiculous thing is we have 4 foreign GKs registered in the 25. That is crazy.

Scottish players are regarded as foreign and as I don't know their ages I have included Kingsley and Fulton so potentially without any new ones that makes fifteen We are also being linked with Barnsley centre half Marc Roberts. I am surprised how much clubs like Palace, Boro, Watford and Burnley are spending in the transfer market.

This is a new one;

Lisandro Lopez a CB from Benfica

Friends are Benficistas, they say Lopez who? He's hardly played all season and injury aside is not all that, a fringe player at best. Not only would they swap him for Amat but they's stick him on a Donkey and ride him here themselves.

I'd be shocked if we went anywhere near him. If we are that desperate then why not bring Bartley home.

Not sure about that Nos, only players born outside of the UK and Republic of Ireland are considered as 'foreign' I think.

If it were the case, that Scottish players in the EPL were considered foreign, then under the same rules, Welsh players would be considered as such too.

They are considered foreign from Scotland have a look at my link in entry 851, yet foreign players who have come through an English or Welsh academy for 3 years prior to turning 21 are classed as home grown.

Eric Dier of Spurs who plays for England is not classed as home grown. As all his youth football was played abroad.

Blimey, I'd never have thought that. We learn something new everyday TLF <ok>

What is a 'Home Grown' player?
'Home Grown' players are those who have spent three seasons with a club in England or Wales before they turned 21. Their nationality is not relevant meaning that Gylfi Sigurdsson – who joined Reading at the age of 16 – qualifies along with English quintet Leon Britton, Jack Cork, Nathan Dyer, Kyle Naughton and Jack Cork as well as Wrexham-product Neil Taylor.

Scottish players do not count as 'Home Grown' and so Jay Fulton and Stephen Kingsley have to come into that maximum of 17.

This was in WOL this week. For the same reason as Siggy, Olssen qualifies as home grown as well. We can cut the number of foreign players by not including Emnes , Berghitti and Tremmel in the squad. If we need a third goalie, who is unlikely to play , it makes sense to utilise one of the under 23 keepers although I'm not sure about Zabret's status.

Also linked with Marc Roberts from Barnsley and Poyet, who is a free agent. He was at West Ham and is Gus Poyet's son.

If Roberts is good why did we not get him at the sametime we were looking at Alfie?
