Look at this another way, its football the opposition are trying to score and invariably will stick the ball in your net. It happens to All the top sides, even Arsenal, Chelsea and the Manchester clubs concede goals. They win though because they go back up the other end and stick ii in two, three or mores times. If a defence can limit the opposition to just one goal you should be winning more games than not. The solution is to be found in front of goal not at the half way line.
until Barmby has signed the players he believes the team needs it is a bit early to be calling for a new manager (looking at possible candidates - could any of them do a better job, and noone suggest Brown please, on a budget we saw what he was like at PNE). We should be able to beat Ipswich in the cup, hopefully by a large margin giving our strikers the confidence they need. To be a top side any club needs power, pace, penetration and perfection in passing, hopefully Barmby and team can ensure we have them all
We have had 40 attempts on goal in the last 3 games which resulted in the net total of 0 goals. Our main striker has not scored from open play for 8 games. These are facts (best rafa voice). We need a finisher and someone to put the pressure on the forwards and create competition in this department. Other than the keeper problems we are bloody good.
Anyone who thinks Adebola is what is needed is woefully short of ideas. He has no pace and simply isnt good enough. Id sooner put my money on Fryatt before him. We should never have signed him. I just cannot see what it was that Pearson saw in him to bring him here in the first place. I would sooner see a young kid who is raw but has the energy and pace and the enthusiasm to cause problems than an ageing pro who has had his day. Sorry. Its not the players fault. He should have gone much lower than this level if he wanted to carry on playing.
The GK issues (except the fact we are one or two fit keepers short) would be of little relevance if we took those chances at the other end. I refuse to accept that it is other teams stopping us - it is what we are doing wrong that is causing us problems and it starts and ends wioth Fryatts abysmal form. All our eggs are in the bag and the omlette is ****e!
I'm glad it's not another manager then. It wasn't a great result but we dominated the game and everyone put in a massive effort. Too many of our fans spout the "as long as they give 100%" bollocks when slagging off a Daniel Cousin type but then when we put in all that effort and lose, they boo. On paper, most people think we're an 8th to 14th type of team. We're punching above our weight. We'll get some poor results, some will even come in clusters. But everyone is trying. Us lot crying about it won't help much.
As i have already posted on another thread, it is no coincidence we played our best football when adebola started against west ham. Now im not saying he is the answer but it is painfully obvious that he is the type of striker we need, just a bit younger!
suspect NB will have a new striker in place for the Peterborough game at the latest. So far the window seems to have started off slowly and we will see if Papa, AP and NB are proactive or reactive in the transfer dealings/window. once we get the first movement we will have a better idea on the ideas coming out of the KC
