The why did we not secure better defenders ? Unless the manager/Cortese thinks we are good enough in that department ? If thats the case I know more about football than they do as 3/4 of our back four are not premier league defenders .
Well someone told me that we were the 9th biggest spenders in the whole of Europe this summer and 7th in terms of net spend? Not sure where he got that from, I think MOTD or somewhere, so that suggests that the money is/was there. Whether you think the money was spent wisely is another point and too early to judge imo
We should of spent more money on class premiership defenders , where we got them from I dont know but as sure as **** we will lose far more if we go down straight away . 14 in goals in 4 thats 133 goals a season , now I dont think for a second we will concede that many but just reading that sends a shiver down your spine .
Looking a bit deeper, the top 3 scorers last season just happened to be: Manchester City (Goals for: 93) Manchester Utd (Goals for: 89) and Arsenal (Goals for: 74) Considering 12 of the 14 goals conceded this season came against them, and we've only got to play them one more time in the league, you're absolutely right to "not think for a second we will concede that many". Any club that isn't top 6 or Liverpool and most pundits don't really bother to see the bigger picture. They have preset ideas about where a club will finish and just form their opinions on what's in front of them. If Saints win they're staying up and if they lose they're going down. When the BBC showed a Saints game last year, they'd have Jake Humphrey, Steve Claridge and some saggy old MOTD pundit. After Saints typicallly dour TV showing, suddenly we're crap and Steve Claridgee comes in as the voice of reason. The pundits tend to forget what happens week by week and just revert to their presets when they analyse what's in front of them. I take what they say with a pinch of salt.
Yes, having now listened myself, I would say they were just slightly stretching the one they already ripped us before the season started...
To be hoest, after our start, we will have to accept that most pundits, opposition fans and anyobe else who has a say in media, will write us off as relegation certanties. Not always a bad thing, we seem to perform better with little pressure, as was proved up until January last season.
Ah, I think I'm beginning to get somewhere. Cortese has always stated that he will run this as a company. He told me in January that part of that was to have a wage structure and that in the first instance, he would not break that structure. He would be happy to pay large transfer fees if the money was there, but not break the wage structure as that could lead to the ruin the club. Does your last statement in bold above suggest that you want as much money thrown at this as possible, in a big gamble of the club's future? This is a simple question and I hope you answer it. Ps. you are still wondering why we didn't try and sign better players. Have we not moved on from this? I'm sure I read you accept that we tried. let's focus on the fact that we failed (CB wise).
Genuine question - this guy is so obviously a troll who is just out to provoke people.....why do people keep humouring him by responding?
Hi Jenny. I have read his posts and not bitten when he first re-appeared. The other evening I tried a debate with him and to see if I could reason with him into at least moving his discussion points on to a topic we can do something about (i.e the transfer window has closed - we need to wait for a CB), but it didn't get anywhere. I read a post of his from earlier on and wanted to try and get some understanding of him and his view. Maybe I'm just a naive man, but I think he genuinely cares about Saints but maybe I'm just too soft and nice! PS. Apologies for quoting Jenny, to anyone who has her on the ignore list.
Hi GMI, Nope, unfortunately it's not that simple, as you're not allowing for home "advantage". I was merely pointing out that we're not going to play the equivalent of Man City, Man Utd and Arsenal 9.5 times a season. Cheers LSN
