It is 'tries' I was working in IT for a company a few years back when their website went down. I put up a message "Please bare with us while we fix the issue" - much to the hilarity of about 200 people who emailed in alerting us I had used the word 'bare' instead of the word 'bear'. In a toss up between two words the act of 'being naked with us' sounded more appropriate than 'a big hairy mammal with us'. Anyway, you only make that mistake once, then you get to snigger forever more whenever some other poor fool makes it.
