There were a number of years immediately before the Green Brigade, that the Celtic fans, yes everyone of us, had an opportunity to sing the Celtic songs and the Irish as well. What happened it was like a morgue. Thousands of fans cancelled their season tickets or else did not renew them for the next season. Pud says the Green Brigade needs to listen to what is been said. Pud, that is not been helpful, The authorities and the Green Brigade must speak as equals. If not it won't work. If they talk to each other in a meaningful way compromise will be achieved. Cossy, I notice you come from Surrey so it is easy for you to think that there are very many different groups in Ireland. I think you would be surprised how narrow the range of Irish "songs" Can I call them Songs of Freedom, most Irish and Irish diaspora would have the same choice of songs. Now I agree adds-ons may, and would throw many off them.
I live in Surrey, I am from Glasgow. My grandad was Irish and I'm married to a woman with Irish parents and plenty of family living in Dublin, Kildare, Cork and Tipperary. I'm not quite sure how you think it is easy for someone from Surrey to think that there are different groups in Ireland. What is it about Surrey and Ireland that makes them so different? Are Surrey residents more ignorant of the Irish? Do the Irish not have as many varied opinions as the rest of the world? The bit about the songs - confused.com Are you saying that Celtic fans can only choose from "Songs of Freedom"?
Agree 100% with this. 'Let the people sing', 'The soldiers song', 'Fields of athenry' etc etc - all irish, but no IRA.
Surrey bhoy, It was you that brought up the very different values. What I was trying to point out that Irish people no matter what values they held as a rule liked Irish Freedom songs. As obviously that answer does not suit with you I suggest you bring your many friends from Dublin Kildare Tipperary and elsewhere and sing whatever songs you want. Don't let the Green Brigade control your singing. In fact if there were more prepared to do that we would never hear tell of the Green Brigade again as they would be completely drown out by inoffensive singing and we would have a solution.
In one sentence, you have shown the world that you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. You clearly think that the Irish are as shallow in character as you are in intellect.
In my opinion, they need to listen as they haven't bene previously and immediately seem to be on the front foot as to what they will do. They are not helpful (not me suggesting they need to listen). I hear about arguements around the GB area as "ordinary fans" (not uber fans) ask them to tone (wolfe) it down and they refuse and accuse people of not being Celtic fans. Lets not forget about the ordinary fan.
Crossy with all due respects, you have very limited association with Irish people. You are not even Irish yourself and seem to claim your knowledge from in-laws etc. Compared to some of us you who spent the greater part of every year for the last 60 years in various parts of Ireland. I think your knowledge is perhaps inferior. It doesn't surprise me as I know many Irish people who would freely tell you those people from the South of England are the worse of all they think they know everything. You do seem to one of the type they talk about.
It is really a bit sweet when a man from Southern England tells Celtic fans what they should and should not sing.
I'm interested in the answer Irelands veterans were IRA men In peacetime they have been legitimate armed forces....who wants to sing about them? If its the singers....arnt they volunteers not legitimized...like the ira?
Venom I think you are wrong, my point was that people who attend Celtic Park regularly would have a better right than a non regular attender. Its funny how so many of so called " Celtic " fans have adopted the Rangers posters stance of calling anyone they disagree with insane. I suppose I should regard that as a badge of honour, as I would hate to have similar views as most of them. I thought worthwhile posters would argue their point instead of simple name-calling. Maybe some have not got a reply.
Classic. I'm still not sure if you're the world's best WUM or completely ignorant of subtext. <WellDoneMuir>
