One big assumption you are making is that they have no knowledge of English football and the media business in the UK. Do you have any basis for that?

Only that they approached Leeds United in 2008 and decided the business was simply haemorrhaging money and that it was not a business they wished to have anything to do with. MLSE have not approached any other European football business since (as far as I know).
 
On twitter, there's a few people making the distinction that the key guy is a billionaire and not a millionaire. Someone checked the Forbes list & found that there are 12 billionaires in Chicago, including Eric Lefkovsky, founder of Groupon, worth $2.9bn. No idea if this is in any way relevant, but I'm enjoying all this speculation. And it's sunny too!!

The Pritzker brothers could be the main people, they are now fully in control of the family business as their father died in November 2011. They may be wishing to move into new ventures.

It would be fantastic if they were ! shot in the dark though, do they not have casinos as well !!!
