Aye, cracking timing. Then Steve Bruce can try and tap Grealish up for our reserves and offer him £250k a week. We'll sharp see whether he's in it for the football or the money then....horrible little **** !!
He probably does but the reality is we are about to become the richest club in the world. The future of Bruce is not really important. If it does happen, we will no doubt have a plan in line with Man City's to drag us to the top echelons. Part of that will be how we are managed to get there. I would imagine we will therefore get a new manager who will fit a certain footballing philosophy, one which will transition nicely into the next manager. A la Pellegrini and Pep. Bruce doesn't really fit the bill in that regard. And Rafa certainly doesn't, a notoriously difficult manager to follow due to buying players uniquely suited to his defensive style. I want to be entertained for the first time in ages. If we are not working to restrictive budgets, lets deliver the fans something which gets them out of their seats again. I feel sorry for Bruce as he's shown himself capable. He has taken on a difficult job, followed a manager who is very difficult to follow due to having his own style, working under the worst owner known to man, with a set up at management level that would not happen anywhere else. Yet he has outperformed the previous manager who was widely revered, against a back drop of little support from the fans, and managed to even add some entertainment along the way. I wouldn't keep him if taken over, but he certainly deserves respect for what he's done and how he has handled himself publicly.
Yesterday was the best I've seen us play this season, along with parts of the games against Bournemouth and West Ham. We won't be able to play that system every week but it worked well for us. Rose and Manquillo provided necessary runners and width, Almiron and Max have really clicked and Shelvey (who looked a lot more fit, mobile and driven)and Hayden dominated the midfield. I think having Ritchie back is a massive help. He provides the necessary defensive cover if we're getting overran one side but having him and Almiron together is a nightmare for defence. They never stop working and putting people under pressure. That gives Max a bit more freedom to roam and cause chaos. Was really refreshing to see. We'll probably lose to Villa (classic Newcastle) but I'm feeling optimistic that we may roll them over. Hayden was class. If he's keen to stay in the Northeast (I'm not sure what his family situation is) then we need to get him tied down. I also imagine he's in his late 20s but he's still got another five years as an established player. Positive for Joelinton too. That first half miss was poor but he was a handful all game. Gave the Sheff defence a lot of headaches and it was all too much for Egan. Great composure to lay the ball of to Almiron and then great drive into the box for a deserved goal. I read that he's been isolating in a flat by himself. Must be tough in a new country with no close friends or family around, and when youre not performing.
Wholeheartedly agree. Bruce has shown that without a takeover he would've been more than up to the job. But a deep project to push Newcastle amongst the very best? There'll just be no room for sentimentality. With a takeover, they'll change the execs and subsequently bring in a big DoF type, who will then be expected to make the calls. Whoever they bring into that role will then give a clear indication of who the next manager is.
