This whole thing is wrong, the Premier League has to make a stand not allow any club who participates in the ESL play in the PL. If the ESL clubs make as much money as they hope it will be impossible for any other club in the PL to challenge the top 6, therefore they make even more money and become untouchable. This is already the case to a certain extent with the CL but if the ESL goes ahead the PL would be between 6 teams and the rest would be left to play for 7th (which would probably be a CL qualifying spot).
But that's the point - if that shower finish 1-6, what diff does it make? None of them are staying in the ECA, they have effectively "left" UEFA and therefore can't/won't compete in the Champs League or UEFA Cup. So what, then, is the point of the Premier League with them in it? The title itself will always be someone else's, but how does a domestic title matter anymore to these clubs whose owners have decided they're no longer interested? The only solution is to kick them out. Whether that's today, or end of season (for easier maths) is open to debate. Personally I'd do it with immediate effect and extend automatic promotion in each division by 3 clubs, removing play-offs. Then they need to effectively treat the ESL as a separate bubble - players can't be sold from it, although they can be bought into it. Loan system for those rogue clubs shuts down. Players accepting ESL terms relinquish the right to represent their country as per FIFA's comments. If they play back in the FIFA recognised system, then they get their license back. It's great, really - mercenaries will flock to join the ESL, those who care more about the game will stay. The ESL will die, I think - i don't think it's the same as the PL, which was just a rebranding of the top flight. And every club in it should die too. Feel sorry for the fans, but you have to take the rough with the smooth.
Then so be it. That's my personal ultimatum, bud, either they go or I do. I'll know in less than 2 months, I suspect, and if it's me going then I'm ok with that. Thanks to Mike, my love for football is almost non existent anyway, so it won't be much of a loss. Besides which, I'll continue to do the local club stuff, boys training, etc. Probably end up spending more time - and deservedly so - at the local team. And I think many, many fans will do the same.
MNF on Skysports tonight will be a decent watch I reckon. Would be class if they just didn't decide to show the game at all although that would be harsh on fans of both clubs of course who are blameless in all of this. Be interesting to here Klippity Klopp's take on all of this.
The Premier league not so vocal as uefa Just a statement of concern The premier league won't do **** all
The remaining 14 PL clubs have a meeting tomorrow with the PL. Let's just say thst the remaining clubs are pushing for punishment including immediate expulsion.
