Would be gut wrenching if PIF are not even remotely involved any more.

They're not interested in the purchase on their own... For them it was a business opportunity away from the football itself I suspect... I think they'll have been asked by the Saudis to come on board because they know the area and have food connections, but eventually they'd just sell their 10% to the Saudis and let them get on with it...

They have huge construction/development interests in the area, own the Racecourse, and own 3 golf courses in the area also. The Reuben brothers are already heavily invested in Newcastle. The tie up for them personally with Newcastle United would have significant benefits to their other interests obviously. They also seem to have a personal interest in the club for whatever reason. What they appear to have wanted for some time is an interest in an English football club, but they want that to be a club going places to fit in with their profile. They would know they are not going to invest a significant portion of their wealth in NUFC, but they are also aware of the need to be involved business wise. So the Saudis were the ideal partner. They bring country type wealth to the situation which allows you to compete at the high end, and they also bring with them a reputation for not ****ing around and getting what they want. So no QPR type gamble scenario.

NUFC couldn't be better aligned to The Reubens. They need help though. I'd imagine they would retain a long term interest, for as long as they have business interests in the area anyway.

Ironically, he's been ripping off everyone for decades.

Well, I doubt he did it sincerely.
