But it is fair. Football goes in cycles. Remember when Forest were top dogs? Now those at the top want to stay top forever by playing downhill every half
I suppose the argument for live football is 'who would you rather watch?' Liverpool v Man City or Burnley v Fulham. Personally I wouldn't watch either. The PL is dogshit. I watch us and that is it. I have no interest in watching a bunch of pampered, overpaid fairies dive around and cry for 90 minutes.
I’m just saying world wide manu have a significantly larger fan base than say Burnley do. Which means that more people will tune in to watch a manu game than a Burnley game. I would also guess that the income generated from advertisement around the manu games is significantly higher than the Burnley games because it’s reaching a larger audience.
And why is that? Because they are always on TV. If every team was shown fairly then at some point the likes of Burnley would have a far wider global reach than they currently do. But then that would add too much competition for the top 6 which they clearly don't like.
Absolutely true. I agree that all teams should get equal time on the screen. I still maintain though that if that happened then manu would outstrip most teams viewing numbers by a country mile. I suppose the other way to do it is go full pay per view and have every game available and charge a reasonable price. But I suppose even then how do you know which team the person watching supports. One thing I think we all agree on is that our takeover won’t happen if the cartel have their way.
For Liverpool and ManU it is self-perpetuating, a virtuous circle: tv, social media, merchandise, sponsorship, star players, money. They need to be remain competitive otherwise, after a few seasons, most of their global fanbase will start supporting other teams. The 'elite' clubs feed off eachothers success. Many 'fans' of Liverpool will likely also be 'fans' of other clubs like PSG or Juventus. Fans of a club like Barnsley support them because of their links to the area - it's in their veins. The vast majority of ManU fans support them because of marketing. In the same way restaurant chains like KFC, McDonalds and Pizza Hut have marketed their ways to dominace of shopping malls and thrive off eachother's prescence, these 'elite' clubs do likewise. Americans, particularly, understand this. They are no respecters of history, they are respecters of money and power.
100%! I doubt he would be signing a 6 year contract having just said he'd only stay if the clubs ambitions were in line with his own if he didn't have assurances that we would be progressing in the near future... Still had 4 years on current contract so Ashley wouldn't have cleared off a pay rise would have been thinking about selling him in the summer for big bucks if he keeps up the form he's had so far (bar west ham game)
He's either a complete mug or he's been told the objectives changing at the club and it really actually is..
