If you weigh those discounts against how much it will cost you to buy all the apps, games etc you want through Apple's monopoly it might look a bit less promising. Much more free and low cost stuff on Android than on Apple as Android developers don't have to pay hundreds of dollars to Apple for the privilege of being allowed to sell their stuff, and the fees charged by Google are generally lower than those charged by Apple.
The Google Nexus that I mentioned before was also made by Samsung for Google, just so you know, the 7" version is available everywhere at very good prices considering how good it is, but I think the 10" version is only on sale on Google Play Store for now but it's a very reasonable price for one of the best tablets on the market at the minute. Google are lowering their prices to try and corner the market, their new LG Nexus 4 phone is almost as good as the Samsung Galaxy S3 and they have that on sale on Play Store for less than half the price of the S3.
Nexus 7 is below £200 and a brilliant piece of kit. A friend of mine has one and loves it, however if you already have a large smartphone like an S2 or S3 then it's probably too similar and worth getting a 10 inch tablet.
I had the 7" Tab, and bought the Nexus 7 for my daughter and after using both the Nexus is noticeably faster, a much better 7" tablet.
Will definitely look into the 7 inch nexus, got to say I liked the look of that one but st wasn't readily available. So, the free android apps that are out there wouldn't be free with Apple? I'd decided the I pad was the better bet up to that point!
A lot of the apps that are free on android are also free on the ipad, however there are quite a few which aren't. They both have roughly the same number of apps available on their app marketplaces.
well said if he want to brag about it .. he has to go with Ipad .. but most IT and computer experts I know have a Samsung and yes Ipad is more user friendly and simple, this is why girls like it better bcz they sucks when it comes to gadgets
Read something a while back where they'd quickly caught up. Quickly found this too: http://news.cnet.com/8301-1035_3-57542502-94/google-ties-apple-with-700000-android-apps/ In October so it's possible that it's different now but I doubt there's a huge difference one way or the other.
Google Play is expected to hit the 1 million apps mark months before Apple's App Store now, even though Apple had a huge head start Android has caught up quickly. My wife uses Apple, I prefer Android, and there is almost nothing she can get that I can't (or at least something that does the same job), usually for cheaper or completely free too.
This. In general Android apps will be the same price or cheaper than the Apple ones as they are cheaper and easier to develop. The exception are the branded ones for the iPad which were developed ages ago and thus are now heavily discounted. There's a lot more branded apps on the Apple store, and also a lot more similar ones (loads of $0.99 cent games that are all slightly different copies of the same thing), but a broader variety of functional apps on Android. It's easier to find the app you want on the Apple store, and often easier to work it out, but you will find more choice on Android and if you are willing to look it will often be cheaper and have more functions. Best to have a quick look beforehand and work out prices for the ones you want. Also, if you already have Samsung phones you should be able to download the same apps to your tablet for free, which will save you having to fork out for them all over again. That's probably the main saving you could make.
http://play.google.com/store/apps You can always go there and look at the apps before you buy. One thing you mentioned which I forgot about was you already have android devices. If you buy anything on the android app store it's attached to your google account, not the device so you have access from all of them. I imagine Apple is the same if you own an iPhone and an iPad? EDIT: Notice Swarbs has already mentioned this! Whoops.
I've yet to pay for an app on my phone so re buying isn't an issue. I just use the free ones! Will no doubt buy papers and magazines when away with the tablet though, and other such stuff.
Do you have an iPhone Ruff/Chief? If you have one and those apps on your phone were paid for and downloaded via your Apple ID, then you won't have to pay for them again, just download them again. If not then obviously you would need to do it from scratch again... As an example, my brother logged into my iPad's AppStore with his AppleID, and by going to 'Purchased' apps he could just redownload everything onto my iPad for free. All of those apps were ones that he had downloaded onto his iPhone during the previous few years...
