Holders Birmingham Bears will face Essex in the quarter-finals of the T20 Blast after rain washed out all but two of the last round of group matches. Essex progressed to the last eight after Glamorgan lost to Gloucestershire in a match reduced to five overs each. In the other ties, North Group runners-up Worcestershire face Hampshire, Sussex play Northants and South Group winners Kent will host Lancashire. The matches will take place between 12 and 15 August. Lancashire beat Northamptonshire by 13 runs in the T20 Blast Final at Edgbaston Lancashire 166 (Davies 47, Prince 43, Afridi 3-14) - Northamptonshire 153 for 6 (Cobb 44*) Lancashire have clinched their first limited-over silverware since 1999 with a 13-run victory over Northamptonshire in the final of the NatWest T20 Blast. Since that 1999 success in the Sunday League, Lancashire have been defeated 15 times in the latter stages (quarter-finals, semi-finals or final) of limited-overs competitions. Five times previously they had reached T20 finals day and twice they had been thwarted in the final.
So often explosive hitting as been the key to T20 success, but Lancs have shown the value of variation in the bowling and exceptional fielding.
