I saw him play yesterday and he was fantastic! In a year or 2 he'll certainly be one of the best keepers around if not already
The last save he made in the clip was even better. A brilliant strike from the German into the top right with power and Cheesy got a finger tip save on it. Amazing!
What a great shot stopper. All he needs is to grow in stature and gain enough authority to boss our defense.
The number 1 shirt seems to suit him. Could Mr Wenger finally put Almunia out of his misery now, making the 1 shirt available.
And to think that Fergie spent £18m on De gea.... If that was Wenger, people would be saying that he's lost the plot.
Credit Wenger here, he knew Chesney was waiting in the wings amidst huge clamour for him to sign Schwartzer, Given and any other keeper who was available.
Quite recently we've been discussing if bringing on board someone like Given might have been a help to Chesney in acquainting him with things learned through experience and cover. Have to agree that Chesney improves by the week so anything to be gained from the experience of someone like Given may amount to a short term learning curve. Cover though could be another thing. I just don't see Fabianski being able to provide that sufficiently or confidently. Lack of action doesn't help but sad as it may seem, I don't know how to equate clean sheets with Fabianski.......
RVB - He was thrown into his Premier Lge debut at OT and made his Champion Lge debut v Barca, both times he played well so proved that along with his talent he has the temperement. He will be a huge player for Arsenal in the coming years, so long as no-one turns his head with the promise of £millions more than the millions he's earning.....
Who else could they get though? If he is their number 1 for the next 10 or even 20 years then I would call that a good investment.
Quite right Mr Grizzly. He was indeed thrown in at the deep end and came out intact and better for the experience. He's a natural. If these other clubs come in with their millions, we'll just have to " repel boarders " so to speak. He seems the staying kind and I hope that's the case.
RVB - was it Alan Curbishley who said that he's seen plenty of players kiss the badge of a club one day then kiss a different badge the next, football has become a ruthless money driven sport (though I guess it's not the only sport), having seen the likes of Nasri, Cole, Hleb and Flamini rip the guts out of the club over money I have become more cynical over players loyalties....
Well Mr Grizzly RvP has been very dedicated and in the absence of a complete meltdown with no prospect of reinforcements I would be highly surprised if he were to consider a move away. He is to me like a Tom Hagen to Michael Corleone. Sorry I've been binging myself on The Godfather Trilogy
RVB - RVP may well have been loyal to Arsenal but the same could be said of the club who pay the wages of a player that's played only 150 odd games in 7 years
Indeed which is why I believe he is very mindful of this. Loyalty works both ways and I'm sure his goal-scoring rate at 1 in 2.3 matches is an attractive prospect for the club. This ratio may prove to be even better by the close of this season.
