Anyone remember an ITV drama (possibly BBC) called Chimera?

It was about a experiment on apes gone wrong and one escaped. It scared me as a child.

    Thanks for listening. Night night.

    "Yeah, the referendum was dodgy"

Which is exactly what I said all along .

The fact is the voters in the Crimea had NO choice but to join Russia. Do you agree?

I just wiki'd that chimera thing and this made me chuckle:

The series was later re-edited for release in the United States, and retitled Monkey Boy.

Yeah. It was a dodgy referendum with armed pro-Russian separatists outside the polling booths. Still doesn't alter the fact the Crimeans want to be part of Russia.

It was an unlawful annexation but unlawful isn't necessarily unjust. To me, Crimea being part of Russia again is only a good thing. It was Khrushchev, a Ukrainian, who made Crimea a part of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic in the 1950s. Most Crimeans speak Russia as their first language and consider themselves ethnic Russians or russkiye.

That's not what you said all along at all.

You implied that it was laughable to suggest that russia did not "bully" crimea into joining it.

    You have been proved wrong.

Who proved me wrong you utter dunce? <rofl>

Russia are bullying their neighbours and have been doing so for years, covertly. You don't believe it which makes you either a blinkered moron or an apologist for Putin.

You were proved wrong for one thing by the reference to numerous independent polls undertaken over a period of several years, which showed very clearly that the will of the Crimean people was to leave Ukraine and join Russia. Many of these polls took place when Crimea was firmly a part of Ukraine, and were undertaken either by Ukrainian authorities or by independent ones.

This clearly shows, that if the people of Crimea are being bullied by anyone, then it's by Kiev and the west, who wish Crimea to remain a part of Ukraine. Although this is a scenario that you ignorantly mocked, it is in fact the reality.

Because you are only interested in burying your head in the sand and shouting 'im right' 'im right' though, and are not interested in becoming educated or knowledgeable about a matter, or in having a balanced and informative discussion, you have simply ignored this overwhelming evidence, pretending it doesn't exist and that you know best.

And yet you call me "blinkered" ! Staggering.

I called you blinkered because you refuse to accept Russia has bullied anyone. We should start rewriting the history books so they reflect your opinions because according to your opinion is "Fact".

If you really think anyone, let alone the Ukraine, could bully Russia, you should go and get your bumps felt.

Let's get this straight, so that there's no misunderstanding. This is the actual sequence of the discussion :

    1. You suggested that recent conflicts are due to russian expansionism.
    2. I pointed out that this is not the case. I explained in detail how 1) Russia is trying to protect its existing interests and its allie in Syria to maintain the status quo, in the face of expansionism by Saudi and by the US and 2) Russia is hanging on to those parts of what were the USSR which are Russian leaning and which have been dragged away from Russia against their will by the west.
    3. You responded to my detailed explanation, by attempting to mock me by sarcastically saying that crimea must have bullied Russia then, if it's not Russia doing the bullying.
    4. I pointed out that the Crimean people want to be a part of Russia, so this is a good example of my general point that Russia is not the one who is doing the bullying.

The whole conversation started when I laughed at the idea Russia was being bullied by anyone. You then chipped in with some Russian propagandist nonsense about poor old Russia getting it tight from the west.

You are entitled to your opinion but please don't confuse your opinion with facts.
