Strong suggestions that we're about to get this guy on a pre-contract. Don't really know a whole deal about this guy and I hate looking at player videos on youtube because you can make anybody look good (even Poulsen!).

So, has anybody actually seen this guy play? I suppose he's young enough (he'll be 25 joining us) and he's free so I suppose we can't complain too much. He's also classed as a winger which is incredible since we haven't had a proper winger for about 15 years!

He'll be thats if he signs,a squad player at the very most,I don't think either NESV or the Liverpool coaching staff will be largely dependent on him.The worrying thing is the injuries plus the fact that it may take him a while to adapt to the premiership as the french league is so slow,It would be ideal for Carrick, who is the slowest midfielder in the premiership,
However being free,He is worth a punt,Hopefully he'll be more ''Gary McAllister'' than ''Andriy Voronin''.I reckon the Liverpool board and management have more tastey acquistions targetted.
There is a list a mile long, and this will be shortened in the coming months.

The way I heard it we're "on the brink" of signing him.

He was being chased by Utd, Chelsea, West Ham and Newcastle but rejected them all.

There is a risk involved because he's available on a free.I hope he's more ''Robert Pires'' than ''Gabriel Obertan''.
Laurent Blanc would've gave him away on a free, but was delighted Baconface was stupid enough to pay money,so he accepted it.Blanc himself admitted that Obertan isn't right in the head. He's nuttier than Stan Collymore,Roy Keane and Craig Bellamy combined. And every man and his dog knows Roy Keane should have been put in a straight jacket and a padded cell years ago.

I believe it was a similar story with Bebe, too. PSV turned him down for free. Five weeks after he was given away Utd paid over £7m for him. Nice one, Queiroz.

I heard a rumour that Ferguson was offered Bebe 3 months earlier for 125k,and the deal fell through. He was later charged 8 million. They do say fools and their money are easily parted.Maidstone I reckon got a nice slice of the Smalling fee as they would have added a sell on fee when they sold him to Roy Hodgsons Fulham for 100k.Well I reckon 5% of 10 million is worth taking, especially if you are a non league club.

While Bebe appears to be a strange buy (if indeed he cost that much) Smalling looks a bargain.

It proves one thing,Roy Hodgson isn't a bad a talent spotter as some would make out.Two decent pieces of business from Woy.He signed Rampaging Raul for Liverpool and screwed Baconface for 10 million on a player he paid a pittance for.Roy Hodgson deserves all the credit for Smalling even though Slur Exlax will claim it.

smalling and kelly will hopefully provide a solid defence for england in the future and their clubs

He's a damn sight better than the waiter. £17 million plus bonuses for 18 games from Aquilani? And a net spend of £8 million just to pay Robbie Keane's wages for half a season. Not to mention Jermaine "Dude, where's my car?" Pennant. How I'll miss him <ok>

or 6m pepe, 20m torres, 10.5m xabi alonso

swarbs engage brain before typing... slur alecs great buys : djemba djemba, obertan, taibi, veron, carrick, anderson, owen(free i know but still getting paid every week for **** all), hargreaves i could keep going

Or 7m Vidic, 13m Ronaldo, 5.5m Evra, 2m Van Der Sar, 6m Hernandez, 13m Nani. Maybe you should take your own advice? Brain in gear before trying to compare?

I could list all the waiter's **** purchases, but I really don't have all night...

And it's funny you know, I could have sworn Owen's scored 13 goals in just 15 starts for Utd. Better goalscoring record that Robbie Keane, David Ngog, Ryan Babel and Fernando Morientes. And £40 million cheaper <ok>

Your statistics are a little bit skewed there, but's that's not a surprise considering you're a biased manc. Owen may have only started 15 games, but he's actually appeared 42 times for the Scum. Therefore he's scored 13 goals in 42 appearances.

Rafa's and Fergie's mid-range (£2m-£15m) flop/success ratios are about the same, though Fergie lost a little more money. Rafa was rarely able to spend outside of mid-range. Wenger's is better but Mourinho's is far worse:

I could list all the waiter's **** purchases, but I really don't have all night...

Kromkamp, Benayoun, Nunez, Paletta, Josemi, Dossena, Arbeloa, Sissoko, Bellamy, Riera, Gonzalez, Crouch, Keane, Morientes, Luis Garcia, Penant, Reina, Agger, Lucas, Kyrgiakos, Skrtel, Kuyt, Babel.

Dublin, Heinze, Howard, Greening, Ricardo, Poborsky, Cruyff, Carroll, Fortune, Belion, Johnsen, Tosic, Djemba-Djemba, Forlan, Solksjaer, Smith, Taibi, Kleberson, Cantona, Silvestre, Blomqvist, Sheringham, Bartez, Da Silva, Da Siilva, Evra, Vidic, Obertan, De Laet, Pssebon, Park, Diouf, Kuszczak, Van Der Sar.

That's only the mid-range but for every Torres there's a Berbatov.

The Fergie list took me longer to type out.

Nobody expected Aquilani to feign injury for so long. He's certainly looked like a decent Alonso replacement since he got fit.

And who bought Keane? The way I heard it Rafa wanted Barry and Keane as a partnership but if he couldn't get both he only wanted Barry. Yet we somehow ended up with only Keane because the club wouldn't spring for the extra £1.5m Villa were holding out for, which caused the whole Alonso saga. Ridiculous and thankfully it sparked Parry's exit.

Still better than your four paid efforts:

Owen: 13 in 42 - 0.31 goals per game
Babel: 22 in 146 - 0.19 goals per game
Ngog: 19 in 88 - 0.22 goals per game
Morientes: 8 in 41 - 0.20 goals per game
Keane: 7 in 28 - 0.25 goals per game

So still better than all four, and still £40 million cheaper. Or have I "skewed the stats" again?

I'm sorry but that's got to be one of the most biased and skewed articles ever! Just for a sample:

Craig Bellamy - "average"? His goalscoring record was worse than Michael Owen's at United, and he attacked his own team mate with a golf club! Flop
Peter Crouch - "success"? 24 hours without scoring a goal, and again a goalscoring record worse than Owen. Average at best
Gabriel Paletta - where did his £3.5 million sale magically come from? He was sold for an undisclosed fee. Oh wait, ther £3.5 million makes Rafa look better...
Quinton Fortune - "flop"? He was bought as a squad player and did exactly what we needed him to do. Average
Jesper Blomqvist - "flop"? Another squad player who played a crucial role in the treble season, and would have done more if not for what was almost a career ending injury. Average.
Rafael and Fabio - "average"? Ask the Arsenal midfield and defence. Both successes, especially considering Alvaro "almost killed by his own teammate" Arbeloa is supposedly a Liverpool success.
Rodrigo Possebon - Signed on a free, so what's he even doing in the list? Or is the writer inventing fees for United players so he can make us appear worse? What a surprise...
Ritchie de Laet - Also signed on a free, with any dees dependent on appearances so what's he even doing in the list? Ah right, cos he's another way to keep SAF's success percentage down.
And whilst we're on the subject of missing players, where's Diego "flopped like a Salmon" Cavalieri, and Sebastian "I'm so **** it hurts" Leto?

Nobody expected Aquilani to feign injury for so long. He's certainly looked like a decent Alonso replacement since he got fit.

Could say the same about Hargreaves. At least he performed when fit and contributed to the team - made crucial goals and performances to win us the PL and CL in 2008. Aquilani has never looked anything other than Alonso light.

And who bought Keane? The way I heard it Rafa wanted Barry and Keane as a partnership but if he couldn't get both he only wanted Barry.

And ended up forcing Alonso out the door even tho' he's twice the player Barry ever will be. Nice one Rafa... <applause>

Paletta wasn't sold for £3.5 million,He went in a swap deal for then on-loan Emiliano Insua.
As for Kromkamp. We swapped Josemi who we signed for £2 million. We sold Kromkamp for £2 million therefore 0 net spend.
Mark Gonzalez signed for £1.5 million sold for £4 million.
Peter Crouch (one year left on his contract) signed for £7 million sold for £11 million.Because Pompey couldn't pay us all the money in cash,we got Glen Johnson for £11.5 million, because Pompey owed us £7 million.out of the £18.5 million deal.
A lot of the Aquilani money was based on succsess with the exception of €12 million. If we sell him to AC Milan for £14 million,we will have covered the sell on fee of 5% which will be 5% of £14 million which is 700k and we will still make a net profit, having not paid him for a whole year...thats if he's going to be sold.
We are also going to save £1.4 million a year on Torres,as Andy Carroll earns £30k a week less.Add that to the £30 million profit.
What about the £23.5 million profit we made on Xabi Alonso.
Plus we made no loss on Robbie Keane. We gave Spurs an initial £10 million for the rest to be paid the following season, which was £9 million.Spurs took him back and we got our £10 million back, net profit/loss. 0.

Or have I "skewed the stats" again?

Oh no, you're utterly unbiased, unlike the Utd fans who helped Tomkins on his book.

And you don't use emoticons childishly like a silly wum.

I'm sorry but that's got to be one of the most biased and skewed articles ever!

If you say so. Everybody knows you're totally unbiased. As unbiased as I am sarcastic.

Rafael and Fabio - "average"? Ask the Arsenal midfield and defence.

Not an example of blinkered assessment based entirely on one game. Shove in a few more laughter emoticons to impart even more credibility to your argument.

And ended up forcing Alonso out the door even tho' he's twice the player Barry ever will be. Nice one Rafa... <applause>

And yet Barry scored...erm...twice as many goals. Hey ho. [Insert stiff middle finger emoticon.]

Lampard's a better player than Barry but Barry formed a better partnership with Gerrard in the England team. Oh, the bias.

Of course only getting one offer, £12m from Juve, in 2008 had nothing to do with Alonso sulking.

So Rafa forced Alonso out but Fergie didn't force Ronaldo, Tevez and Rooney out. It was the Bias Fairy.

Oh no, you're utterly unbiased, unlike the Utd fans who helped Tomkins on his book.

Except Tomkins didn't write the article. His financial analysis was borrowed so some Liverpool fan could try (and fail) to make a point...

And please, tell me which of those stats is biased?

If you say so. Everybody knows you're totally unbiased. As unbiased as I am sarcastic.

What is it they say about the lowest form of wit?

And yet Barry scored...erm...twice as many goals. Hey ho. [Insert stiff middle finger emoticon.]

Wow, almost as if Alonso was a deep lying playmaker for 'pool and Barry played a much more advanced role for Villa. And are you seriously claiming Barry is a better player than Alonso? Must...resist...laughing...emoticon...

Of course only getting one offer, £12m from Juve, in 2008 had nothing to do with Alonso sulking.

He didn't look all that sulky when driving you to second place...

So Rafa forced Alonso out but Fergie didn't force Ronaldo, Tevez and Rooney out. It was the Bias Fairy.

SAF managed to convince Ronaldo to stay at Utd for three more seasons and win 3 PLs, a CL and a LC, and still got the largest transfer fee in history for a player that had publicly stated his desire to play for Real.
Tevez was kind of forced out, and not handled all that well by SAF, but his agent played a fair role in it too. At least we didn't try to sell him for an inferior player and then replace him with a crock. And we still qualified for the CL in the year after we sold him. Remind me how your season went after Alonso left?
And Rooney's still here. You must have missed his goal in the FA Cup. Guess the cup can't be very interesting for you any more...
