So Routledge would have been fine and SWP is not worth buying? Can't believe what i'm hearing! We only wanted Routledge because we didn't dear to dream of getting a player like SWP. Two reasons because he's not playing at City, first he is not Mancinis signing, second he's up against the very best in the league. He would thrive playing for a team like ours.
But he won't get 60k a week at QPR, makes me doubt the whole story unfortunately.

The difference is our expectations have now risen and I think we could do better. Routledge has had PL opportunities and never taken them, SWP is not worth the wages he's on, so he'll either have to accept a lower figure or stay counting his money in the stiffs. I'm not convinced he's right for us...

Can't believe some of you!!! Routledge v SWP?? No contest IMO . Bit concerned weather he'd come after the alleged racism he/his farther experienced at LR a few seasons ago!

Are we talking Flavio Briatore expectations here with CL and all? Should we make a move for Walcott instead? Though i agree that his wages need to be lowered considerably.

I don't have any problem paying big wages to a player who is worth it, examples would be Scott Parker and Nedum Onuoha.

The opposite applies to SWP and Wayne Bridge.

We don't want to just start throwing money about because we can, there has to be an element of value

i think he would be a great signing he knows the premier league inside out but we also need some class defenders

Tbh I'd prefer gradel from Leeds. A fraction of the price and on his way up. He destroyed us last season.

Agreed, just watching the West Ham v Leeds game and he looks a handful. Younger and hungrier he'd be worth a punt...

Prem defenders have a lot of respect for SWP and this will help the likes of Adel, DJ and Bothroyd re space and time. It's only because i'm convinced SWP will have a big impact for us that i defend this move. He has Premier League and international experience compared to the unproven Routledge and Gradel. But Gradel would be an interesting addition, though i wouldn't expect an immediate success as to SWP.

Firmly with North ... I would like to think that his weekly wages would be kept private ... The most important factor is that he is again a player with a point to prove at the right age. To me as a player SWP is different gear compared to Wayno

Private? Like out of sight out of mind so we can dream our way into oblivion? The owners / investors can't afford to think like that. Money is the name of the premier league game. No doubt SWP could do job for us but you've got to think about financial returns on investments otherwise the latter dries up and its curtains later on. Thirty something prem players are high maintenance and increasingly low value.

I agree with the call for Max Gradel, a strong player already and still young enough to be nurtured and sold on in two or three years for money that would recoup wages AND make a reasonable profit to invest in another youngster as a replacement.

Would Gradel make it as a prem player? Of course he would - just like Graham, Bothroyd and so on. Tommy Smith didn't do too badly yesterday did he?

SWP will also help attract better quality, would be a perfect first signing for the Fernandes era in that respect. The likes of Scotty Parker will be more drawn to SWP than Routledge and Gradel.

SWP is not any better than Routledge IMO. I thought Routledge was good value for money at the price and had proved himself for us having played a major part in getting us promoted.
