Personally I like it when Swords is around. He makes me laugh and he does liven up threads. I find him a bit similar to DT in many ways. They are characters and when they are on form this board is as good as a football forum gets. Not particularly keen when things get over personal though, but then I'm a bit ole fashioned like that.

I can't say that I'm particularly keen on individual posters having their own threads though either. There's a lot of posters on our board who invest a lot of time and effort in making this board what it is and often go unsung. To you all, ( I hope you all realise who you are without mentioning any names. ) I salute you.

As for all the good swords bad swords stuff.. I find it just easier to either ignore or come back with good humour or in some cases hold your hands up and say OK, you was right. I really don't have the time or inclination to have a war of keyboard words with someone I don't know. Like many of you, I have enough things to deal with in my personal life than worry about too much as to what is being said on here. If I ever thought that someone was continually digging me out, then I'm fully aware that there is a facility built into the site called an ignore button that is at my disposal. If someone was trying to hamper my enjoyment of our board I would simply decide to use that. Why others who are moaning on here haven't used this tool is beyond me.

Having said all that, I don't think Swords is in any way racist. In fact you couldn't be further from the truth. He is often on here and anywhere else he chooses to post, defending others. The anti-semetic thing was unfortunate, and I don't think he meant what he said in the context it was interpreted. Of course I appreciate that any racist, sexist, homophobic and all the other equal ops categories references are unaacceptable on this site as they are in day to day life. And rightly so. But I do feel that there are some posters that can provoke swords to go off on one.

In a way, he reminds me of the Joey Barton of our board. Entertaining, but his enemies know how to get him to react.

So therefore it's clear that this poll has a winner so reinstate him.

Great Post Nines. I strongly agree. Have tried to say the same as well, but don't have your fluidity.

More people are in favour of either the current ban being allowed to run its course, or of a complete ban, than have voted for no ban.

    Just pointing it out.

56.5% of voters support a ban (14 support a permanent ban, 12, the current four week ban) as opposed to only 43.5% who think he was banned unjustly.

Those numbers mean that the only sensible, democratic option is to let the current ban run, and then see how Swords behaves when he is back. That way the top section see their returning hero (why is it when I type that, Swords morphs into some kind of sad John Terry Clone?), the bottom section get the peace that comes from a Swords-less board for a few weeks, and Swords gets the time to think about what he has said/done, and how he will react when he returns.

We are in the age of coalitions, after all...

All parts of the jigsaw but if the 26 members that have bothered to vote for a ban left, you wouldn't have one piece missing, you'd have huge great holes all over it. Would your jigsaw really be better?

A sad and ineffectual age of coalitions where no clear philosopy or policy can be followed, and every new approach is an inept, and non-workable compromise. Winner takes it all for me. Would you divide the PL winners trophy into bits so there was no clear winner?

    Exactly.

No offence to Brixton but the poll doesn't mean much as it's open to fixing and anyone who can be bothered to make the effort can change the result in less than 30 minutes.

As for DT's interpretation of the result, it's like the Tories claiming they won the last election.

Three options on a loaded poll where two options were bans. Three horse race and there is clear winner and second was a short ban .. define short as he has served it IMO.

Willy you little massager x ... 14 support a total ban 12 support a short ban. Th result looks clear to me the gold medal goes to the good while the evils will have to plan another attack and balance is restored to the universe ... andy have done a great job exposing the witch hunters to the readers.

If it meant the trophy didn't go to Man Ure or Chelscum, then yes I would.

I would like to appeal to all those voters that voted for a short ban to ask how long is short , I would also consider letting these posters have a cheap South of France holiday when my Plans are finalised.
I may even buy any poster a meal or any under hand stuff if they would change their vote to see justice done correctly ... The witch hunters are also left to live another day. I appeal to these voters to think about poor Cerny and the abuse he had to go through ... we are not animals ... let the monster live free as Swords goes more good than these witch hunters

Dave, the mere fact you refer to those who disagree with you as 'evils' shows just where you stand. And you're wrong. Just because you haven't been targetted before, doesn't mean those who disagree with you are wrong, nor are their views something you can just ignore. The mere fact that we are having this discussion shows that.

Swords needs to spend his 4 week ban wisely, thinking about the reason why he was banned - not just this ban but all of the previous bans.

If he doesn't control his on-screen persona, he fully deserves to go permanently. If he does control hismself and abides by the rules of the site, then he is fine being a member - as we all are, so long as we abide by the board rules. 's the bit he hasn't yet managed to do, and he hasn't managed to convince any of us on here that he's capable, or willing, to do that.

Just to be clear - my preference would be for a self-moderated Swords on the board. But I'd happily accept a board free of his snide dominance than a board where he is left to roam free and attack whoever he wants.
