Didn't see his anti-semitic post but agree that he is usually the defender of all minorities. Occupational hazard for him as he speaks his mind whatever pops in at the moment. The only thing I profoundly disagree with him about is Adel Taarabt but he does not deserve to be exterminated, excommunicated or hung out to dry. he just talks utter rubbish from time to time but then which one of us doesn't?

Looks like that teletubby character unnecessarily stirred things up for Swords - "Yid Vicious" - yes, a rather weird username name and folks of that religious persuasion do indeed sometimes have big honkers (not hooters, which are jugs over here). Swords apologized and this was graciously accepted by Yid Vicious. Just think everything got totally out of hand here.

He'll be sitting back loving all this attention. Best way to kill him (metaphorically, of course ), is not to feed him or his ego.

 

Exterminating swords would be a little harsh. Defender of minorities? Hardly.

 

'What should happen to Swords?'

To date the responses to the poll are these:

- nothing, he was banned unfairly...............16
- he deserves another short ban.................10
- he deserves a complete ban.....................10

Unfortunately these questions as put, tell us nothing about this board's support or otherwise for the actual decision made by us mods (i.e. the case in point) OR your thoughts on the actual reasons for it (being the alternative to the permanent ban he'd been formally warned to expect following his third ban on the trot).

What the responses do tell us though is how difficult it is to mod a regular poster who chooses to provoke reactions that spark so many complaints. Consequently we have a board split, almost down the middle (16 say no ban, 20 say a ban of some sort, 10 saying permanent), with some very strong feelings coming from both sides.

We knew this would be the case from PMs and posted opinions over the past coupla three months. It is precisely why we opted for a compromise 4 week ban - to do what we could to harmonise the board by placating both sets of opinion, and at the same time leave Swords in no doubt of our resolve to up the ante every time he provokes controversy to the point of generating complaints and calls for mod action.

It should be remembered that I got a fair bit of (albeit diplomatic) criticism a few weeks back, for being too liberal and not acting quickly enough in such cases where our rules on respect were repeatedly flouted by certain individuals (e.g. Swords, James the One). Now it seems, despite the compromise call, we're being criticised for overdoing things and being unfair. Are we... really?

Seems to me there are legs in DT's threat to start an alternative board. Whilst forums are there to express and discuss opposing views, there needs to be agreement on whether that discussion is kept orderly - and how - or whether it's the free-for-all DT demands. One thing's clear, free-for-alls don't need mods and we mods don't want to waste our time moderating a split board in this way. We've a football club that needs supporting!

 

That PM will have Swords seething. How dare you say about Swords not going to games. i can see him now in his pink painted bedroom with steam coming out of his ears. When I said that to him he went off on one accusing me of being drunk.

After last night, his ban at least stops him blaming Anton and calling for MH's head so he can be replaced with Terry as player manager.

Dont get me wrong, there is a lot of things he says I agree with (usually non football) but I remember what 'the boy' did to BBC606.

Sorry Swords but you will never control yourself so I think the ban should be permanent or we will have no posters or mods, just you talking to yourself.

 

Legs to an alternative board? There are already other boards out there, the door isn't locked, an empty threat.

You are an excellent mod, Brixton. Keep the faith. Believe me I'm a good judge of mods having been banned five times by those bastards over at CIF and GUT (Guardian Newspaper) in the past.

 

It's my opinion that Swords has been subjected to a bit of a witch hunt. I don't stand for a no holes barred forum. There are a number of people who have taken the fact that Swords can rub a few people up the wrong way ... he has me when i first joined and I believe my reaction to him could be put forward as an example of how to handle him at that stage. Today I know I have no problem with him who i respect as a poster as he makes some very points on subjects and i repeat that the mark of a man IMO is the fact that he can and does step down when he is wrong.
This is a great thread as i hope some will understand take him away and you will have a silence that will drive you mad and in the end the pack of wolves will turn on itself .. This is a healthy forum when the diversity is at its broadest IMO

 

Swords may well feel that he has been subjected to a witch hunt - but he's brought it on himself.

Think about it - Kilburn hasn't been subjected to any form of witch hunt. Neither has Staines, nor just about every other member here. And you know why? They understand the rules, they understand how to express themselves and when to exercise self moderation, and they remember that there's another person behind each and every username on this site. Swords doesn't do any of these things, so he sets himself up for whatever judgement people will make against him.

IMO, I prefer the board when he's not around, but will bow to the moderators decision.

Very! Nice to agree with you CB! There are rules to stick to. Let the mods mod and lets get on with football. If someone has to continually apologise to people there is clearly something wrong. I feel sorry for Brix and nuts having to deal with this crap and certainly wouldn't have the patience myself. Having to write lengthily explanations on a forum with no reward must be mind numbing. Can't believe people have the time to continually discuss it. Has anyone ever met the bloke! Do they know who they are defending!

 

Very fair point Willy however the silly sod has set himself up . He pushes stuff and that in itself has pushed up his own profile on this and other boards. He has also drifted off by his own choice at times which sort of ours water on views that he is a troll thing whatever that is.
I still can't understand that this board has the tools to ignore posters if so desired . The amount of posts and views on this thread should be a clue about what our members like to read and comment about ... After all we have no influence on the club we support anyway . This is pure social media read by fans of QPR and now fans of Not 606.
I stress again that all the characters on this board make it what it is and the spectrum is wide . I learn things from here and make more mistakes than most ... I would never use the ignore feature as it dilutes the soul
There will always be one who is bullied look at Cerny, Flyer etc in the past got flack which has been wrong .
Some people don't get on that's life but to try to engineer a ban with others is poor show . I supported Cerny then and so I support Swords now.

I am sure that the readers of this Forum love Sword's input IMO

The thread's here to draw out opinion on where we stand on an issue that affects us all one way or another but that's virtually impossible to mod to the satisfaction of a visible majority.

If you're bored SR, I apologise but regular posters on here have openly contested our decision as mods in this matter and, against my resolve and better judgement, I have seen the need to open the issue(s) to transparently weigh the balance. All the 'witch hunt', 'cobblers and up your anal tract' and similar responses, strongly suggest that a number of posters are dissatisfied with the way we (particularly me) judge things and think they'd moderate Swords differently.

What I take from our detractors is that, in the case of a repeat offender with a bit of kudos, they'd do nothing.

If as a result of all this, it turns out that a visible majority want us to do nothing in this case, then at least those who demand their mods to act on such things, will have a much clearer understanding of precisely why we can't. Conversely those who think we're a bit OTT, will also know why and may see reason to curb the speculative insults.

Personally, I'm very comfortable with cards on the table. Let's keep it going and see what gives. That way NUTS and/or I will be clearer where we stand.

 

Fair enough brix but my point is you guys have made your decision and I think it's wrong of people to question that
