    Evans actually had the guts to turn John Akinde down earlier in the week despite wanting silly money. Goes to show Scally's even offered to back Evans but Steve has had the guts to not go above the pay structure just to sign one player. The wages that have been quoted on twitter by a reliable source suggest Akinde was demanding £7,000 per week which in my opinion is ridiculous money for League One level.

    Fair play to Steve for not breaking the bank with this one.

    I did hear a while ago we were paying £6k a week when we had JET on loan which effectively crippled us for the following 18 months. Scally was willing to give the green light on this one but when that means Akinde would be earning about double and a bit more than our highest earners, it's not surprising Evans turned it down.

    Exactly, and I don't care what people think of the Chairman or even Evans come to that, football is long overdue saying no to these ridiculous wages. I wonder how much Tydeman and Shipperly were earning back in their day, probably pocket money, nowt more. I had a damn sight more respect for those players, than i have for many in the modern game. I'd be interested to know what Bruce and Cascarino were on when here, to make comparison's.

    I see that Liverpool scored from another corner..................

    and in view of complaints from Oxford's manager about the state of our pitch, perhaps there is merit in preparing the pitch to suit our 'style' --- it obviously works for Tranmere - who brought the beach to Prenton Park for their game against FA Cup game v Watford.

    Rhetoric
    I can understand that Mr. Scally doesn't want to financially cripple our Club - and will exercise caution before deciding to make any real investment in the transfer market (( and he's has a lot of experience in 'caution' !)) I can understand a viewpoint regarding not breaking the wage structure. I can accept it when Mr. Scally warns against us following other clubs - into financial oblivion --- and that any investment is not a guarantee of future success --- BUT--

    When GFC have NOT paid any significant fee for around 20 years -----despite receiving millions of £££ for several players (+ add ons ), why doesn't he just say that he has NO intention of jeopardising his financial situation !

    Let's face it -Mr. Scally is able to take a tidy sum of ( supporters ) money each year without having to put his hand in his pocket to 'remove 'cash --- and, looking from his standpoint, I don't blame him - but - looking from my viewpoint, I don't need rhetoric from him............................... because I can give rhetoric in return - starting with;

    if it's not really working, and you don't change things, you can't expect a different result --- or as Einstein said '' you are mad if you continue to make the same mistakes and expect a different result'' ----- I'm not sure if NOT doing anything in transfer windows is an option.

    If we have to pay an extra £ 2000 or £3000 a week for a striker - who could make a difference (( that is needed )), any success will more than repay the investment -- and that would be just from a play-off place. In the grand scheme of things, it would't be a disaster if 'success' didn't happen --- Mr.Scally knows that he can just sell the land and go into property development --- HE is in a 'no lose' situation.

    Akinde signed. Undisclosed fee paid.

    If he can loiter in the 6 yard box for tap ins every time Hanlan hits the cross bar from 12 yards he’ll score 20 by Easter!
