Dai - As I said "potentially Laudrup" Let's wait and see how he uses the cash.

Nevertheless, for me it is Tosh. Martinez got us to the Championship and I think we would have stayed there with him as we would have conceded too many goals. Hypothetical. I know, but that's what I believe.

Tosh took us that step further - even to the top of the table at one stage ('hopefully my memory isn't failing me with old age !!)

If Tosh had had the financial resources that Laudrup has at his disposal, who knows what he/we might have achieved.

the old first division was much easier and fairer than the premiership, norwich, aston villa are just two teams that won the title, we will never see that again until there is a super league and the big teams join that. tosh was an ignorant bugger and got too big for his boots and needed help of shanks and his liverpool buddies, once they left we cruised back to the 4th division as quick as we rose.....It was great at the time but as a manager then no thanks...

Dai, I can remember Villa being champs and them winning the European cup but I can't remember Norwich winning the league. They had a good side back then as did Ipswich but did you mean Forest ?

sorry i meant ipswich not norwich, but in them days everyone had a chance and the same goes for relegation, one year you could be up there pushing for the title and the next you are relegated. Money and rich foreign owners ****ed all that up unfortunately.

Dai, final point from me. It is roughly as difficult now to rise through the leagues as it was then. Tosh delivered 3 promotions in 4 seasons. Yes we fell through the leagues but as Ivor said the squad was "thin" in numbers and we had basically run out of cash.

The parachute payments now available for relegation from the top flight should help limit the damage - although Wolves are doing a great job in dispelling that theory!!

Anyway, who is our worst boss? Cullis?

Toshack for me without doubt . With no (some may say) lucky play offs, just promotion by merit then, he more than proved his worth When he came to the club we were seriously in the doldrums and he gave us credibility & for a short time fame , We more than competed in Division 1 but with no significant investment for players and falling gates didn't help us to consolidate and yes he did make use of his Liverpool connections but don't forget Shankley at the time was probably one of the most famous/successful ex managers around and with tommy Smith & Ian Callaghan who had played consistantly at the highest level then who wouldn't make use of their connections .
We've been blessed with some serious duds as managers but also recently some really good ones
    as a side note
Hollins as a person I found was a decent bloke but probably not the most inspiring managers we've ever had even though we did win a promotion with him. Before Martinez got the job Hollins was in the frame for a return to the club ,I wonder where we would be now if that had happened.<yikes>
