Default Worst pre-season in recent times Well this Rio testimonial match concludes our worst pre-season in recent times. We've lost pretty much all our games even against the direst of oppositions. Our gameplay hasn't been good either, defence has been shambles, Smalling seems to be going backwards every year. No new signings whatsoever, with the core team getting older, Rooney very likely to leave and even if not, most likely a poor season ahead. For the first time, I am not that excited about this new season coming up, also on the back of my mind, that Moyes is not known for exciting football. Hopefully this pre-season form doesn't extend to Sundays match. Anyway, Rio deserved better, he looked well disappointed. just an example, there are plenty more if you look...
We should have gone for a guaranteed winner, like someone who'd won at the very highest level. Why didn't we go after Big Phil?! Or City's new manager?!
Not for me mate. If we win the title, it will be the shock. DM will have to learn very fast...and I am confident he can do it..
No we don't need anyone new. We are the bloody defending champions, we've got a more experienced team than last year and the future Ronaldo in Zaha, Silva-esque Januzej and fit and raring to go Kagawa. Moyes, is younger, fitter and more tactically astute version of Fergie too. So, we are well-stocked in every department, Manager, forwards, midfielders, supporters, you name it. We are the biggest club in the world and we're ready to prove it once again.
Granted Zaha is a raw talent and Januzej is a very promising player but both are young and probably for the future, but we do need a midfielder. Rooney looks increasingly like he's going, Anderson is useless, Fletcher looks no where near ever being healthy let alone fit while Young, Nani and now even Valenica appear inconsistent to be of much use at the moment. We do need a midfielder even just to fresher up the squad to give us something different.
I felt the unstoppable urge to correct your post their . Seriiousely though I think Moyes will lead United well. I doubt we'll win the league this year, that would be a big yet pleasant supprise to me, almost as nice a supprise as going hom to find the girl at number 12 welcoming me to plunge int... Anyway off at a tangent their. As long as we finish top 3 and get through the group stages of the CL I don't think thier will be too much concern from me this season. Top 3 has to be priority, if we finish 4th then that will be the lowest we have finished ever in the Premier League era and that will hurt Moyes reputation especially in the eyes of the media who can be relentless at the best of times. I think he'll keep us in the top 3 though.
This Anything else will be a bonus. A bit like someone starting their career. You expect them to start with learning the ins and outs of the post. You cant expect the person to win the top award of best employee whatever their job maybe. Like you can't expect Moyes to win the treble in his first year. That would be totally unrealistic
It's more likely that this new employee could win the best employee when the only other two credible members of staff are also new to their role. And in addition to that all CL competition Bayern, Madrid and Barca all have "new employees"
Ah but the previous post holder was in post for 26 years and was the best employee in the business by a long shot... I can understand why United are only 3rd favourite. Previous experience indicates this will be an eventful period for the club.
Ah, but how would it alter the dynamic if one of the other credible members of staff had previously been fired by the company, and then begged by managers and customers alike to come back and rescue them? And if he know he has to win the best employee award to remain in his job?
Most Man U fans I've spoken to aren't confident about this game or the season in general and I understand why. Moyes will do a fine job but it will take a season or two imo. We've had a pretty good lead up to this game and I expect us to get a draw at least, but with RVP around we could play really well and still lose (as has happened in the past). Man U normally start the season quite slowly but the bottom line is that the defending champions should never be underestimated. Safe travels to those coming down.
We will lose, Moyes will get sacked and Matth will be appointed new United manager. Matth will then get my full support and I'll make a thread or 2 to back the manager.
I am hoping that DM does not bring the reverse of what SAF always did. Less of the "play well and still lose" of Everton and more of the "play crap and still win..." of United..
