Saw he was on the verge of a comeback Pro, but its more likely he'll be back for your 2nd leg against Napoli. Your passing, possession and much of everything tonight was spot on, the eyeties in their own back yard will do almost anything to stop you getting a precious away goal but they can't sit back and you'll get chances, hope the Swans get through. But on Sunday we need a win big time so I hope we beat you, but that's football mate.
Fantastic performance, it dropped off a bit but that can't be helped against a team as good as Napoli can it. Just a shame we couldn't score! Liverpool at the weekend is going to be a tough ask though. I hope Dyer isn't injured.
Good team effort. Pablo, Chico, WR and Dyer all very good. Only slight disappointment was Bony. Not convinced he's the right type of striker for the way we play...a little on the slow side and his first touch can be iffy. I can see us sneaking this away especially as they will be pushing.
A fantastic performance by all our lads so hard to pick a m.o.m, but Dyer gets it for me he was brilliant. Canas had a hard game but stuck with it , a win out there next week would be one to remember for a long time to come and the lads have showed they are more than capable. I just hope Bonys goal radar comes back on we were very unlucky not to have scored a few and the ref as usual was a bit iffy. Play like that in next couple of games and we`ll be extatic but iff not still very proud of our team.
Fantastic performance from the guys tonight, we did everything but score and you would think we were the giant club and not them, I thought as i ate my pie at HT that with a bit of luck we could easily have been 3-0 to the good. We out played one of the giants in world football tonight and stopped them from scoring the dreaded away goal which now gives us a hell of a good chance out there. ...Monk had done his homework on napoli and got the lads playing like we use to and he should be given the job on a permanent bases because we wont get another manager out there who will get the lads to perform like he can...I hope dyers ok as he had a stormer of a game but they all played their part to be fair.. I was very proud of our disciplined performance tonight and play like that for the rest of the season we will not lose too many........The atmosphere was outstanding and back to normal.....
Just got back - really can't add anything to that Dai. Monk has got us playing the Swansea way again and that was one of the most one sided nil nils I've ever seen! Very proud of the guys tonight. The one negative was that we suffered when DeGuzman replaced Pablo - we were a lot slower in midfield from that point on!
Do away goals count double in this competition? I've got a mental block. Good game, unlucky not to win, but I fear Napoli will shift through the gears next week and be a very different proposition.
Yep - away goals count double! If we can go at them early and nick a goal who knows what might happen - dare to dream!
They will have to shift through half a dozen gears if they are going to match us and i cant see them doing that....we have an excellent chance out there..... The away goal rule does apply in the event of a draw...
Just got in from celebrating a great evening of footy, and what a game! every one was right up for this fixture, all our boys put in a brilliant shift, but for me Routledge was my MOTM, he was simply on fire, and caused all sorts of problems for the Napoli back 4, Hernandez and Dyer came in a very close second indeed, but what about our back 4? Unbelievable performance from them all, Chico was like the 'last samurai', Ashley was like 'Raging Bull', Ben was like Billy Elliot on steroids, and Rangel was like A 'Torero', I simply cannot wait for the second leg, the Napoli fans were loud and proud, but once we started to weave our magic, they soon went into quiet spells, our choirboys in the North bank did us proud tonight, and it was a great atmosphere, it's been a while since I've been off my seat so much during a game, Great credit to Monk, we are back, and it feels oh so good!...............
I have to disagree jack I thought bony was immense at leading the line he battered their back 4 all game and gives us an out ball both in the air and on the deck
Agree bepp, Bony did everything other than score. If it wasn't for their keepers, he could have scored a couple.
You got to give it to bony he had a great game and did everything right except miss one good sitter where he took one step to far, But lets be honest here he is not use to the swansea way of fast play and im sure he will get it right and score a lot of goals. The sweat that was pouring off him showed he was working harder than normal.....great effort.
brilliant performance absolutely brilliant, What an all round performance defence immense, total control in middle of park and Bony led the line superbly. Only the lack of a goal detracted from this performance. Hoping we can carry this through to Sunday. Another couple of injuries unfortunately, saw Nathan in reception after match he was struggling a little, hope it's not too serious.
Probably the best 0-0 I've ever seen. We were great and I'm so proud of the effort put in. really like the initial shape to the team and the tempo was good. You could see by the end of the game everyone was puffing hard. Can't pick a MoM. probably a Napoli goalkeeper combo.
Morning all, what a fabulous display! Especially first half, almost perfect. Even second half with Pablo going off and Napoli pressing harder we were still the better team. Best performance of the season for me considering the calibre of opposition. Nearly 70% possession, wow. And 21 shots to 9? Really?! EIGHT shots on target - to one for Napoli, who are third in Serie A and in their cup final. Incredible. I think we all saw the change in motivation with Monk from the Cardiff game and last night proved it. If we carry on like this, and I don't doubt we will, then it'll be a (fairly!) comfortable finish to the season and promising for next. We're getting the shots on target to match the possession, which is more than encouraging. Anybody notice Ash mention getting back to "the Swansea way"? Seems there's unity there.
I first heard the term swansea way when martinez was there and thats all i was hearing at the liberty when i was there was comments like " I wish we could get back to playing the swansea way"...Everyone knew that the football we were playing under laudrup was not right and even though i'm blowing my own trumpet here i did say that the atmosphere at the club was really down and the players especially the pre laudrup players were not happy, I saw it with my own eyes and i spoke to many people down there including players and ex players on the staff who i have been friends with for a long time. The atmosphere now that laudrup has gone has gone through the roof and the appointment of one of the old school in monk is a master stroke by jenkins because he knows exactly the type of football that has got us to where we are and has now put it back in training and the players have responded. The term Swansea way was first said on MOD by Hanson and it stuck. t has even be quoted by managers when they want to make a point about the art of passing
