Just got back in. Haven't read earlier posts, so apologies in advance if I repeat what others have said. What a difference it is to have two "natural" wingers on from the start. It allowed us to play with width and pace. In such a set up, Ayew can slot in as the spearhead, and we look more dangerous. We probably created more chances in the first half than we have in any half of football thus season. I thought that Jack Cork probably had his best game for us. Amat did really well in defence (how did he miss that header?) Ayew looked happier in the central role. Main negative was that we sat back at the start of the second half - but when they pulled one back it seemed to reinvigorate us!
Best display of the season abet against a weakened Liverpool side who have all had a number of games under their belt. Ayew had his best ever show in a Swansea shirt and for once we had 9 shots on Target which was good to see, With Klopp forced to save players was a good leveler today and it could not come at a better time......We deserved that win and we just about deserved safety and now we can plan for an early start to rebuild the team with new faces we need to be a lot more consistent next season...
A great win for the Swans albeit against a weakened Liverpool team (but these players were bought for a tilt at a top 4 spot so they're not poor players). I thought we should have been out of sight at half time. If we were five up they couldn't have complained. The second half saw us slip into a defensive mentality, with no real intent. It cost us big time as Liverpool pulled one back and they looked favourites to come back for more. Fair play to the Swans, we raised our game and got a third fairly quickly. The sending off finished the contest and it would have been nice to push on for a fourth. A comfortable win against Liverpool. That's a rarity so we may as well sit back and enjoy it. Since April, when we were deemed unlikely to get any more points, we have 7 points from 5 games to finally cement our Premiership place next year. Our **** season continues with a first ever League win over Everton and wins over Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and now Liverpool!!
Hmmm.... don't know. I'm enjoying today's result and it was great to see our players put some effort in and the skill we know they have to good use. But when we reflect back on this season it's been pretty bad. If only we were a little more consistent. Beating the top teams then losing to the bottom ones. What's that all about? We've had some fabulous results here and there but overall let's be honest most of us will be glad to see the back of this season.
Well, I don't think anybody would have predicted that score, and it could have been a lot more in our favour. I know we were playing a weakened side but sweet revenge from a few seasons ago when the positions were reversed a week before the League Cup final, we played a weakened team and they put five past us. Amazing how we could be so bad the last two away games and suddenly we are back to our best. Do we stick with FG or bring someone else in, decision time soon for HJ (by the way, where were his programme notes today?). Expect an announcement soon on the take over now that we are mathematically safe from relegation.
Could that be said about most teams, including the top 4? It's been a crazy season where perhaps for the first time there has been a levelling of the playing field.
It has been a complete topsy turvy and at times piss poor season. We have produced some of the worst football I have seen from a Swansea team since way back when. On times I have really enjoyed some performances but not that often. I don't think we can look at a few good results and allow them to forget of how dire it has been at times. I remember walking out of Stamford Bridge in August and thinking we are in for a right good season after the performance we had put in, how wrong was that, I suppose the important thing is that we have survived and with a couple of games to spare. .
Great performance today from the players. Cork for me was motm, he was outstanding as was Leon as usual. I also thought Amat has played his way into the side permanently today. He was very, very good on and off the ball. My only bug bearer today was not taking Rangel off (who had his best game of the season) when they went down to 10 and bringing Barrow on and putting Naughton at RB.
Anyway, I actually enjoyed today's game and that's not something I could have written very often this season.
It was special for me, getting the magic 43 points, against the Scousers as well, very sweet, and well done Roofer for being the first to predict the 43 points................ Beaten ManU, Everton, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, with West Ham and Citeh to come?
The stats you need to know (from the BBC website) Swansea enjoyed their fourth home league win in a row, their best-ever run of home Premier League victories. Christian Benteke netted his 50th goal in the Premier League. Andre Ayew scored twice in a game for the first time for Swansea in any competition. Swansea struck three goals in a Premier League game for the first time since 25 April, 2015 - the last time Jack Cork scored. Gylfi Sigurdsson has been involved in 41 Premier League goals for Swansea overall (25 goals, 16 assists), 10 more than any other Swansea player (Wilfried Bony is next on 31).
Thank you to Swansea City FC and their marvelous supporters for yesterday's show of solidarity with us both before the game and the 27th minute round of applause. And you absolutely spanked us and more than deserved your victory.
