And I accept your explanation. My opinion is that you should never go cheap on your strikers or leave yourself short of striker options. Did it turn out that Philogene was the big signing we were working on all summer?
In the end, a good point. Coming back from 2-0 down will do the world of good for confidence. One point I’d like to make though - our goal kicks where the defender passes across the goal to the goalkeeper, to pass it between the defenders in our own area - it really is football insanity! We kept doing it and they kept getting chances from it. Horrible stuff.
Jaden and Davis apparently. There's a Tan interview somewhere. Basically seems like the Udinese offer was unforseen and too late to switch to another target.
So we really shouldn't have left ourselves in the position we did. Short on strikers. There was time to budget your options. I'd understand it if it was a last minute opportunity you couldn't turn down.
Oscar didn’t leave for budgeting reasons, he was almost a surprise departure late in the window. Very poor planning if that was the case. And now he’s worth about sweet **** all and almost certainly coming back to us in the summer to cost us exactly what he already was.
I suppose if it's so late you've already accepted a loan for Oscar then the club is somewhat damned if they do or damned of they don't as you end up with an unhappy player who knows he'll only play if something happens to Delap or Connolly.
He left roughly around the time Philogene came in, I'd be shocked if there was no connection and we just didn't fancy him. How could he have been almost a surprise when the club was driving it not him?
It's no coincidence it was the last few days of the window - as that's when most business is done for players with multiple options. I believe Davis had already told us we were his preferred option, it's just the timing of the Udinese bid that screwed us.
That's what happened and you can't argue it. I just think you should have plan a, b, c...right up to z if you commit to that choice.
They'll have had a list and other options but if you make your choice and it falls down so late then there's not a lot you can do. They'd most likely have told b, c and d choices to look at other options as we were moving on Davis by then as it fell down in the last 48hours of the window IIRC.
And that's a wrap on that one I think. Though I reckon it's more to do with what ht2 says. Rosie didn't fancy Oscar.
I agree. If he did he'd still be here. If we know some of the budget was unspent then its unlikely it was purely a case of financial necessity. One question I would ask though, given the early form of Delap, Connolly and even Tufan before his absence, how much would Oscar have actually played - especially factoring in injury? It was a gamble, but given were now not far off January then it's getting harder to argue that letting him go hasn't been justified.
Next 3 give us a real chance to show how real our play off credentials are imo. Need to be targeting 7 points at a minimum .
Think we could see Bird and Rak-Sakyi join up with the Squad in january, Twine has done ok and i think the switch will eventually get flipped on and he will step up and become a very important player nearer play off time which is probably better for us if he starts firing properly nearer the time and we know he is capable of better.
