This is a really tough call given we are nearly always getting a return of three points. Donacien is never a Premier League player. As McKenna do you go for defensive attributes now or for attacking attributes plus dedication and potential to get paid back later?
I'm afraid Donacien has fulfilled his potential as far as Town are concerned (like, perhaps Aluko,Evans and even Freddie)whereas Clarke is capable of being improved (if he gets his head around it).
Donacien also is not up to speed. It would get take him a few matches to be at his own best and we can’t afford rustiness with our upcoming fixtures.
Woolfy had to come across because Clarke was missing again, Lowe is a fast tricky winger like all wingers used to be but if you watch the replay youll see Clarke barely jogging behind the play, yes Woolfy got done by a good player but Clarke should have been in position to make a challenge.
I'll stick up for Wolfenden too,how many mistakes has he made since we adopted this risky but in the end very successful game plan?He is probably the most improved player KMc inherited.
Was an awful mistake by Woolfenden but like others have said how many mistakes has he made the past 2 seasons, he's generally been superb. I am starting to think given how well we attack and the options we have do we really need a great attacking RB? For the amount we concede and the number of tricky wingers we've played this season down that side a great defensive RB like Donancien would be preferable over other options.
We’re not the finished product yet, not that we will ever be. I trust McKenna’s judgment to make the best of what he’s got at his disposal. He’s always got to balance winning the next game, looking ahead to upcoming games, developing the team and the well-being of the squad. He might make different conflicting choices for any one of those factors in isolation.
And of course Williams is due to come back from illness. I think I got too close to him on the training ground 2 weeks ago! He makes a big difference in our defense.
All I'm saying is, I think Tuenzebe will be a better option, once fit, than Wolfenden. No room for sentiment I'm afraid. I think we will need a revamp of the defence, if we are gonna push on. Williams is not the perfect RB but he is our best current option and I don't think we have seen the best of him yet. Wolfy is great on the ball but he is slow and sometimes gets caught out coz he is a bit too casual/laid back at times. Burgess, is a hard one, great in the air but gets caught out sometimes, I think we need better quality but he can do a job and would be decent backup, Leif.....not the greatest defender but quality going forward and I love him, no need for a change in the left back/left wing position!!
I think we all realise that many of our squad wont cut it at Prem level, week in week out. Watching highlights of the extraordinary Chelsea Man City game shows the gulf between the 2 leagues. That said, they are giving us a wonderful entertaining season at Championship level.
Many people thought our team wouldn't be up to it this season. I think they've all been superb, there's very little weaknesses in that team other than no one has stood out at RB. Evolution not revolution for me plus if we do make it to the promised land boy do these lads deserve the chance to prove themselves at the highest level. Look how far they've come since a year ago.
