I know that Shelvey hardly fits the footballing style we all love BUT.... think on. We need someone abrasive in midfield, a player who will compete and put his foot in. We cannot afford the class of player who can do that and play silky passing football. I know we now have Canas but he can't play every game and combative players do get their fair share of injuries. I'm expecting pelters for this as I don't think that Shelvey would be that bad a signing for us - certainly not my first choice but he could do a job. He does get around the pitch, supports the strikers and doesn't mind a tackle. In a squad faced with some arduous European football, he could be a useful player to have around.

You could well be right, if Kemy could sort his head out then we probably wouldn't be looking at him (if true) but he can be reckless at times but I suppose that will lessen as he matures .
Ivor we do need somebody who can put their foot in. But he surely isnt the one. Poor player, not the best discipline wise either (wonder what the Liverpool fans think). I just dont think he would stregnthen the team in anyway, especially not at 5 million pounds worth. Now if you said 1 m or maybe even 2m That may be different.
There is a rumour i read on another forum that Liverpool still owe us 5m as part of the Joe Allen deal and they are trying to use shelvey as payment. I just dont think the kid would fit in to our team/squad in anyway shape or form. He is a poor passer of the ball and thats why he doesnt fit into Liverpools plans. I thought we liked to pass, so dont see how he would fit into ours. Just cant see Laudrup wanting this one.
